18+ LEGO Super Mario set and more starter packs could be coming in 2024

LEGO Super Mario's selection of sets for the rest of 2024 may include a trio of new starter packs and one massive 18+ model, according to rumours.

Instagram user 1414falconfan is reporting that many more LEGO Super Mario sets are on the way later this year, including a massive 18+ model and what could be a trio of new starter packs.

Out of the list of rumoured sets, 71438 is reported to be an 18+ model build similar to 71411 The Mighty Bowser, 71374 Nintendo Entertainment System and 71426 Piranha Plant. It's rumoured to cost $169.99 and be released in October 2024.

As well as this huge rumoured set, 71439, 71440 and 71440 all reportedly include around 200 pieces for $49.99. That's not dissimilar to the price-per-part ratio to the selection of LEGO Super Mario starter packs, which are all currently scheduled to retire in July 2024.

This rumoured sign of three more starter packs following the upcoming (at the time of writing) retirement of all current LEGO Super Mario starter packs might suggest that a significant change to the theme is coming.

This change could necessitate new versions of the existing starter packs to be compatible with interactive elements in other sets, which may not be good news for those hoping for LEGO Super Mario minifigures unless these sets are just a bit expensive. LEGO Animal Crossing is about to debut Nintendo minifigures in March, but that's not a definitive sign that LEGO Super Mario is getting the same treatment.

The latest range of LEGO Super Mario sets have just launched online and in stores but the rumours suggest an exciting year ahead for the theme. Take all reported information with caution until more is confirmed officially as the rumours may be inaccurate.
