71048 Series 27: A potted history of LEGO Castle’s Wolfpack

71048 Series 27: A potted history of LEGO Castle’s Wolfpack

The latest addition to LEGO Castle's legacy is just under a week away and there's a lot to know about the Wolfpack ahead of 71048 Series 27.

LEGO Castle has become one of the most iconic themes from the early eras thanks in no small part to its recognisable factions. In the modern continuation of LEGO Castle, many of these factions have returned with new sets including in 21325 Medieval Blacksmith and 10305 Lion Knights' Castle but a smaller returning faction has been coming back over the past couple of years in the form of the Wolfpack.

This classic LEGO Castle group may not be the biggest, but their rugged nature and roguish colour scheme have helped them earn their spot in LEGO history with a new member and (finally) a wolf joining the team as part of 71048 Series 27. Here's what you need to know about the Wolfpack before the new minifigure arrives in less than a week.

The good old days

There are only three fully-fledged LEGO Wolfpack sets in all of LEGO Castle and otherwise members of the faction have appeared across various builds, usually lurking in the background as they seek to steal what they can.

6075 Wolfpack Tower and 6038 Wolfpack Renegades both display the red and black colour scheme of the faction and the sizes of both builds display their rugged nature, with a fortress that struggles to compare to any of the other faction's castles. For the Wolfpack though, it's not all about power and control. Instead, they're seeking something more on the shiny side.

Bandits and brigands...

While the likes of the Lion Knights and Black Falcons are made up of royalty, warriors and wizards, the Wolfpack's members consist of bandits and brigands acting as the rogues of LEGO Castle. Where others seek battle or to defend their territory, the Wolfpack's aim is to steal, rob and take in the background, hence why they appear in other LEGO Castle models than their own, lurking at the back of the builds to carry out their work in secret.

That strategy has continued in the modern era of LEGO Castle, but there's always been one confusing aspect about their name that has finally been amended with 71048 Series 27.

...without wolves for a while

Despite their namesake, the Wolfpack have never once been depicted with a wolf (as an animal, not on their emblem) before 71048 Series 27. This is partially thanks to no relevant piece ever existing for a wolf before the 2025 minifigure series, but at least this oversight has finally been amended and the faction can add a wolf to their ranks in 71048 Series 27 – It's only taken 32 years.

The modern era

The Wolfpack have been one of many factions to return in the modern era of LEGO Castle, first appearing in the Series 16 minifigure series with the Rogue minifigure wearing a pin of the faction's emblem, but a lot more subtly than other members have. Whether they are undercover or looted the item from a proper Wolfpack member is up for debate.

Otherwise, one of the original LEGO Wolfpack sets was referenced in 2023's 31139 Cosy House via a miniature model of 6038 Wolfpack Renegades – one of many nostalgic LEGO references in the Creator 3-in-1 set. In 2024, the faction proudly returned (though still lurking in the background) as part of 10332 Medieval Town Square.

Next year, the Wolfpack is back once more in 71048 Series 27 with a new torso, shield and wolf element to perfectly capture the look and aesthetic of the group. They'll have an upgraded base build to pick up in 2026 thanks to BrickHammer's upcoming BrickLink Designer Program set as well.
