Choose between LEGO or hot coals to raise money for local hospice

St Barnabas Hospice is challenging people to take part in a painful LEGO challenge to raise money for its 40th anniversary.

Celebrating 40 years of service on March 18, 2023, St Barnabas Hospice is bringing back its practice of walking across hot coals to raise money for its medical and palliative care, serving over 12,000 patients and families across Lincolnshire. For the next event, however, the organisers are adding an extra challenge to the mix: walking across LEGO bricks.

Anyone who's ever trodden on a rogue brick knows that it's an unbelievably painful experience – arguably worse than treading on an upturned plug. For the LEGO Walk, registration is just £7.50 for a child between the ages of five and twelve and £15 for teens and adults, with family tickets for two adults and two children also available at £40.

As in other years, those unwilling to brave the new LEGO Walk can still choose to walk on hot coals. Registration for the Fire Walk starts at £30, with St Barnabas also asking supporters to raise a minimum sponsorship of £100.

All of the money raised through sponsorships and any donations will go straight to supporting Lincolnshire patients living with a life-limiting or terminal illness. It costs £102.06 for St Barnabas to provide six hours of Hospice at Home care, which offers support to patients in the comfort of their own homes.

“The evening will be full of fun for the whole family. We will also have stalls so you can do some shopping and enjoy yummy food while you’re waiting your turn to walk or if you’re watching," Paisley Paddison, Fundraising Officer for St Barnabas Hospice told Lincolnshire World. “This is a great way to challenge yourself and raise money for St Barnabas Hospice. It also makes a unique Christmas present and is a great team-building exercise for staff at your workplace."

Three doctors from St Barnabas Hospice have already pledged to take part in the challenge themselves. Last year, a similar event raised £32,000 for the hospice, and they're keen to exceed that figure in 2023.
