One dedicated YouTuber challenged himself to collect every single LEGO Star Wars astromech droid figure released to date, but by a specific set of rules.
Most LEGO Star Wars fans likely have a fair few astromechs in their collections, whether that be R2-D2, BB-8 or even Chopper. The plucky droids characters have been included in numerous sets over the years, available in a variety of colours and designs, covering all eras of the entire Star Wars saga.
However, assembling a full collection of every single LEGO Star Wars astromech figure released to date is much more of a challenge, as YouTuber Ant Bandit discovered last year when he attempted to track down one of every version of each droid, by a specific set of rules.
The restrictions he set for himself were that he could only obtain astromechs via trading with other LEGO fans, they had to be in minifigure scale and that the challenge was completed ahead of the release of 40755 Imperial Dropship vs. Rebel Scout Speeder and its pink QT-KT figure on October 1.
So began an epic quest to travel across the US and meet with fellow LEGO collectors and YouTubers, engaging in a number of swaps for precious LEGO items that his friends wanted in exchange for every astromech on his list.
It’s worth noting that the rules of the challenge were bent quite a few times along the way though, with Ant Bandit initially kicking off with 27 of his own droid figures before adding the next three via his first trade.
Despite that questionable start, the YouTuber put in plenty of effort attempting to track down all 66 LEGO Star Wars astromech figures on his must-have list, while swapping minifigures and pieces with his fan friends across the length and breadth of the country.
You’ll have to check out the full video above for yourself to find out if Ant Bandit managed to complete his self-imposed challenge in time and what he ultimately did with all of the droids he was looking for.
