LEGO Art 31216 Keith Haring Dancing Figures recreates the original pop art in brick-built form, but how closely does the LEGO set mimic the masterpiece?
The LEGO Art theme today revealed its next upcoming release in the shape of 31216 Keith Haring Dancing Figures, a 1,773-piece model due for launch on May 15. The set recreates The Dance, a pop art image commissioned by the Humane Society as a billboard design that appeared in 1987.
Haring would often listen to hip-hop while producing artwork in his New York studio, channelling the feel of the music into the finished image, which features four animated figures with lines surrounding their silhouettes to emulate movement and energy, perfectly encapsulating 80s street culture.

That same approach also appears to have been successfully applied to
That’s not to say that the LEGO Art design team hasn’t made a few subtle creative changes of their own though. For starters, Haring’s original art included a yellow background, which is absent from

However, by removing that element from the image altogether, the LEGO Art set can be reconfigured in multiple poses, attached to a wall or placed on a desk, offering builders numerous display options.
While the thick, bold lines of The Dance have been accurately recreated in brick form, the vibrant colours of the silhouettes in 31216 Keith Haring Dancing Figures have been ever-so-slightly tweaked.

The artist’s original image featured red, dark blue, orange, green and magenta characters, while 31216 Keith Haring Dancing Figures swaps some of those around, opting instead for orange, light blue, yellow, pink and a darker green.
