LEGO 71051 Series 28 Animals is hitting shelves in weeks, and the next series is packed with new elements, but more specific ones than usual.
We're only a few weeks away from the next round of LEGO minifigures, this time taking the familiar concept of animal costumes and giving it its own dedicated series. The 12 new characters are all based on animals and come with quite a few new minifigure head prints to use in your wider collection.
There's a huge array of new elements, too, but most of these are going to be specific to the costume, rather than finding use outside of the series as we usually see with collectable minifigures. Thankfully, there are a handful for you to feature elsewhere in your collection. Don't forget that you can use the Brick Search app to search for any specific minifigures and their respective elements by scanning the codes on the bottom of the box.
Without further ado, here's a guide to all of the new pieces in 71051 Series 28 Animals.
Animal costume heads
As you would expect from an animal costume party series, every character has a new headwear element for their specific animal. Some of these – the goldfish, dolphin and crocodile – even have built-in tails. Of these three larger pieces, the gold fish has extra printing around the eyes and some golden scales.
The other nine animal headwear costume pieces are smaller, though with exceptions such as the lion and parrot heads. Though the cat and rabbit are repeat costumes, they debut new head pieces to help them stand out.
The costume headwear for the lion and frog will prove to be versatile beyond this series next year. The lion head is an ideal replacement for Luna's lion-topped hat. It was included, but used a different element in the second series of LEGO Harry Potter minifigures. There's even a new Luna Lovegood minifigure launching in 2026's
The frog headwear should be good for fans hoping to create a custom Frohicky minifigure from LEGO NINJAGO: Dragons Rising. The frog-based character has yet to appear in the theme and would require a new piece to depict him perfectly. This element is a good replacement in the meantime, but with a black or red head.
Animal costume tails and tail feathers
There are a few new hip accessory elements in
The lion tail is also moulded and will be great for animal costume minifigures that need a similar tufted tail. Otherwise, it's hard to remove the animal-specific context from this element.
The parrot costume minifigure makes use of two textile pieces for the bird's tail feathers, combining to create a unique and effective look. From the backs of chairs to banners, these textile pieces are going to be great to amass and will connect to standard studs as long as another element is placed on top.
A new minifigure accessory

The combination of a 3D element and the multi-coloured details also tops the printed life preserver designs seen on recent round tiles. This piece is certain to be versatile, and you can find it in four places on January 1, 2025.
