Every original, themed LEGO minifigure series to date

The next range of original minifigures sticks to a single theme, and while it's not the first to do so, such a selection is rare in the 28-series run.

71051 Series 28 Animals is just a couple of weeks away from hitting shelves, bringing 12 new minifigures based on the concept of an animal costume party to the theme. It contrasts with the many other original series, most of which are based on multiple topics and concepts, from Christmas to jobs. Despite this stark difference, 71051 Series 28 Animals isn't the only series of its kind; it's actually the fourth to be based on a single theme.

Here's a guide to every original LEGO minifigure series based on a single theme to date, starting with a range perfect for Halloween. We're not naming series based on any kind of licensed property, since they can cover multiple topics under a single product line.

Series 14: Monsters

2015's Series 14 saw 16 monster minifigures take to shelves, admittedly mixing real monsters and characters with minifigures in costumes, but the overarching monster concept is clear to see in every entry. Current LEGO minifigure series have now moved to 12 minifigures, but the 10-year-old monster series saw the introduction of multiple new elements thanks to this higher quantity of characters.

There's a fly head, the Mad Scientist's enlarged forehead, and the carnivorous plant headwear, all of which are fairly specific to their respective characters. This would end up being a running theme with single-theme series.

Series 18: Party

As part of the tributes to the 40th anniversary of minifigures in 2018, Series 18 focused on a costume party theme, a concept which would return in 2026. This series is unique for introducing several new pieces, from a giant birthday cake and race car hip accessories to some new animal costume elements.

It's also unique for featuring 17 minifigures, the last of which is not part of the overarching costume theme. Instead, it is a direct remake of one of the first LEGO minifigures ever released. You could argue that the minifigure character has a convincing cosplay for the costume party, though.

Series 26: Space

It was back to the multi-concept LEGO minifigures series for a few years until 2024, when the LEGO Group had a year of models celebrating all things space. This included a space-centric minifigure series with 12 characters to collect, with several enticing accessories. The array of new elements for this series included a UFO costume, a new alien head, fresh wigs for making minifigures, and a large back accessory for a realistic astronaut minifigure.

71046 Series 26: Space features 12 minifigures to collect, and while the series is now retired, its legacy will be remembered for a long time. This is thanks in no small part to the fact that it brought back several Classic Space factions with more detail than ever before.

Series 28: Animals

A new single-theme series is launching on January 1, 2026, in the form of 71051 Series 28 Animals, bringing LEGO Minifigures back to the concept of a costume party, but this time even more niche by honing in on animal costumes specifically.

The 12 LEGO animal costumes feature a huge assortment of new pieces, though they are almost entirely specific to their respective animal. The story behind this series is that the minifigures are having an animal costume party, which was probably clear, but the plates have been coloured green instead of black to suggest that the party is taking place outside.

Brick Search’s minifigure scanner allows you to scan multiple boxes of these new minifigures to reveal who is inside each one (taking away the gambling element of their blind packaging). Download Brick Search on iOS or Android to get ready for release day, and the team is working hard to make sure all of the codes are in the database in advance.
