Following the D23 Expo 2022 and recent reports, here’s your guide to every Star Wars series and movie in development as of September 2022.
With recent announcements at the D23 Expo 2022, previous reports and other events such as investor days and Star Wars Celebration, there are quite a few Star Wars movies and series in development for the cinema and Disney+.
Now that the D23 Expo 2022 has come and gone and following the recent report that Disney has removed Rogue Squadron from the release calendar and with its future currently being uncertain, here’s a look at everything confirmed for a galaxy far, far away at the time of writing:
Taika Waititi’s film
Release date: TBC Project: film
Following the revelation that Rogue Squadron has been pulled from the release schedule, the future of Star Wars’ cinematic endeavours currently lies in the previously announced slate of films. Details for these, including one from Taika Waititi, are currently sparse. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has called Waititi’s approach to the Star Wars universe ‘fresh, unexpected and… unique’.
Kevin Feige's film
Release date: TBC Project: film
Reportedly being penned by Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness screenwriter Michael Waldron, Kevin Fiege’s Star Wars Film has no other details to go on at the time of writing.
A Droid Story
Release date: TBC Project: TBC

Announced during the 2020 Disney Investor Day, according to CBR, this animated project will feature a new hero being led by R2-D2 and C-3PO, though nothing more has been said about it since its announcement.
Andor
Release date: September 21, 2022 Project: series
Releasing on September 21, 2022, Andor is a prequel for Star Wars: Rogue One split into two parts. The first part is streaming soon on Disney+ but you shouldn’t expect the second for a couple of years.
Tales of the Jedi
Release date: October 26, 2022 Project: series
Also streaming on Disney+ soon is Tales of the Jedi. This anthology series will be exploring the stories of Ahsoka and Count Dooku before The Clone Wars. It’s streaming on Disney+ on October 26, 2022.
The Bad Batch Season 2
Release date: January 4, 2023 Project: series
Streaming on Disney+ from January 4, 2023, the second season of the animated The Bad Batch series will continue the adventures of the unique clone team and include returning characters such as Captain Rex and Commander Cody.
The Mandalorian Season 3
Release date: 2023 Project: series
The third season of The Mandalorian recently saw the public release of its first trailer at the D23 Expo 2022, revealing where the next chapter of Din Djarin and Grogu’s adventures will be taking them – the scarred landscape of Mandalore. It starts streaming on Disney+ in 2023.
Rangers of the New Republic
Release date: TBC Project: series

Still listed on the Disney+ Originals website, Rangers of the New Republic is a new live-action series set within the universe of The Mandalorian that will ‘intersect with future stories and culminate into a climactic story event.’ However, Kathleen Kennedy reportedly told Empire Magazine via IGN that ideas from that show were being used in future episodes of The Mandalorian. For now, this series may not be in active development but nothing has been officially confirmed.
Visions Volume 2
Release date: Spring 2023 Project: series

Following the first collection of shorts in Star Wars: Visions Volume 1, the second volume will continue to showcase animation and stories from worldwide studios set within a galaxy far, far away, inspired by various countries and cultures.
Young Jedi Adventures
Release date: Spring 2023 Project: series

Young Jedi Adventures is the first full-length animated Star Wars series created for a younger audience, so it may not be as influential on the future of the galaxy or even LEGO Star Wars but it's still worth mentioning. It’s coming to Disney+ and Disney Junior in the spring of 2023.
Ahsoka
Release date: Spring 2023 Project: series

Also streaming in 2023 is the new Ahsoka series, which was recently showcased at the D23 Expo. For those who have seen Star Wars: Rebels, this seems to be a direct continuation but in live-action rather than being animated.
The Acolyte
Release date: TBC Project: series

Leslye Headland, the creator of Netflix’s Russian Doll, is helming this mystery-thriller series for Disney+. Focusing on ‘a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark side powers’, Acolyte is set in the final days of the High Republic era, approximately 100 years before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope.
Skeleton Crew
Release date: 2023 Project: series

Filming has now wrapped for Skeleton Crew, the new coming-of-age series coming to Disney+ in 2023 and starring Jude Law. The story will revolve around a group of children who get lost in the galaxy.
Lando
Release date: TBC Project: series

Starring Lando Calrissian, nothing is known about this upcoming Star Wars series, including which actor will play the iconic character.
