Fan-made remakes offer a taste of rumoured LEGO Blacktron Renegade set

Following further rumours for the reported LEGO Icons 10352 Blacktron Renegade, fan designs might offer an idea of what to expect next year.

Rumour has it, via a.clay.brick on Instagram, that another Classic Space set remake is coming in January 2025 in the form of 10355 Blacktron Renegade, seemingly remaking 6954 Renegade as 10497 Galaxy Explorer and 40580 Blacktron Cruiser, both of which adapted the original designs with modern techniques and elements. The former even scaled up the 1979 set to fit more minifigures and interior details.

While this rumour has yet to be confirmed, the other LEGO Classic Space remake sets showcase that while the remade models overall resemble the original sets, much has changed to best adapt to the current era of LEGO building. The one thing that remains the same is the overall shape.

Keeping this in mind and taking the rumour with caution, we can take a look at fan-made LEGO Blacktron Renegade remakes to see what we might be able to expect early next year. Each of the fan-made remakes we've picked out keeps the lopsided look of 6954 Renegade, modernising it accordingly.

Combat_Armor_Dougram on Reddit adapts the original set by splitting the cockpit between three areas of the ship to launch three fighter craft as well as a pair of drones from a tracked base that can be lifted into the air when the ship is completely put together.

It's an interesting take on the original set that maintains the functionality but more drastically changes the design by splitting the cockpit and extending the length and width of the ship with thinner and longer segments leading to each module. Still, it's undoubtedly the Renegade.

LegoSpaceGuy has a more faithful version of the LEGO Classic Space set, which keeps the rover too. Their version also extends the wings on the side of the ship but maintains the single cockpit design, also adapting the central section to feature a full interior.

Within that interior is a much larger rover than was in the original set and the ship can still split apart into multiple smaller spacecraft and drones. This is a massive take on the original model though and it may not be close to the rumoured set's piece count of 1,151 elements.

What appears to be an even bigger take on the ship with a much different design comes from HP_Brixxter on LEGO Ideas. This fan-designed remake of 6954 Renegade cannot split apart into multiple ships but has a more detailed appearance that still keeps the lopsided cockpit.

The giant engines at the back of the ship and the addition of a loading ramp remind us of 10497 Galaxy Explorer's take on 497 Galaxy Explorer and this is one of the most interesting takes on the 1987 LEGO Blacktron model.

Whatever the rumoured remake may end up looking like, the set is only a rumour at the time of writing and you should take it with a pinch of salt until we learn more details. We can only hope that the rumoured build keeps the functionality to split the model apart, or at least makes its sacrifice worthwhile as the fan-made remakes have.

In the meantime, here's what else is confirmed and rumoured for LEGO Icons next year and you can take a look at the rest of the themes by clicking here.
