The first trailer for Star Wars: Ahsoka has debuted at Star Wars Celebration, revealing multiple Star Wars Rebels characters in live action for the first time.
Disney screened the trailer during Lucasfilm’s Studio Showcase, before releasing it online for the public to view, too. Rosario Dawson returns to the title role after taking up the mantle in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, and is joined by Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla and Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren.
Both of those characters will make their live-action debut in Ahsoka, having originally appeared in the animated series Star Wars Rebels. Joining them will be Thrawn, who is glimpsed very briefly in the new trailer – which plays coy with exactly who’s playing the blue-skinned baddie. Ahsoka describes him as ‘heir to the Empire’, referencing Timothy Zahn’s classic 1991 novel.
Also featured in the trailer are familiar faces like Mon Mothma, played again by Genevieve O’Reilly – reprising her role from Revenge of the Sith and Andor – and the droid Huyang, who’s said to be coming in a LEGO set based on the show later this year. That’s one of three LEGO Star Wars: Ahsoka sets reportedly in the works, one of which will apparently be a new version of The Ghost.
That ship is present and correct in this trailer – complete with a live-action Chopper – alongside a bunch of mysterious new characters, too. One Rebels character notably missing for now is Ezra, but that doesn’t mean he won’t show up in the series…
Lucasfilm has also debuted the first poster for Ahsoka, which confirms the show will arrive on Disney+ in August 2023.
