While no official photos of the teased LEGO Game Boy have been revealed, there are some impressive designs out there that offer a taste of what's to come.
The LEGO Group dropped a surprise teaser for a collaboration with Nintendo's Game Boy yesterday, quickly followed up with some more detailed rumours suggesting a brick-built Game Boy will launch under the set number 72046, originally believed to be an 18+ LEGO Super Mario build said to be priced at $69.99.
The teaser featured various floating bricks, giving us at least a glimpse of what will surely go into a Game Boy build. However, those aren't the only pieces we've got to go on.
Fan designers on Rebrickable have been putting together LEGO game boys for years. We've rounded up a few of the best of them that could offer an idea of what to expect when the LEGO Group reveals the official version.
5 – GameBoy by alejo_librarian

First up is GameBoy by alejo_librarian, a classic take on the iconic console, using tiles and printed elements to replicate Nintendo Games on the screen. The blocky nature of retro games lends itself perfectly to this. The buttons are raised out of the main body of the build, leaving it feeling like a real console.
While the official build will probably feature more detail in the body of the console, the attention to detail on the screen is a fun inclusion and would help bring the set to life.
4 – Ultimate LEGO Gameboy by click_lever
Ultimate LEGO Gameboy by click_lever has more depth to it, with a screen set back from the 'case.' Plus, it comes with insertable cartridges which is an especially nice touch, similar to what we saw in LEGO Ideas 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera. Three games that you can swap in and out feels like a good level of customizability, perhaps with a transparent screen so swapping out the cartridges displays a 'scene' from the game on the front.
3 – Nintendo Gameboy SP by Back 2 Brick

Nintendo Gameboy SP by Back 2 Brick feels less likely for the first ever brick-built Game Boy but shows there's room to do more if the first is a success. The Game Boy Advance featured a flip screen and could be offered either as an alternate build or as another set, with collectable editions tracking the Game Boy's growth through the years.
2 – Gameboy by ad000
Next up is Gameboy by ad000, which you should definitely go and check the Rebrickable page for you to see the interactive features. Wheels and knobs on the side allow you to actually animate what's on the 'screen,' making it seem as though you're actually playing a game. This echoes what 71438 Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi does with its mechanics to make Yoshi 'run,' so it's entirely within the realms of possibility to see it here.
1 – GAME BOY by jcrphotoss

Last but not least, GAME BOY by jcrphotoss' USP has to be its accessories, which would also help to flesh out the build beyond the simple handheld console. Headphones, batteries, and cartridges really throw you back to the era of the cartridge, especially in today's world of chargeable smartphones, Airpods, and digital-only games.
