Former LEGO Magic Maze GWP now available to buy in the US

A former gift-with-purchase, 40596 Magic Maze, is now available to buy outright in the US, in a first for the LEGO Group.

LEGO 40596 Magic Maze is now available to buy in the US, after it first became available as a GWP on all orders over £130 / $150 / €150. The 332-piece set works as a handheld game, with the aim of tilting the playing field and avoiding the holes to guide the marble into the whale’s mouth.

This marks the first time that the LEGO Group is simply selling a previous GWP outright, perhaps suggesting that the company has some excess stock of the set that it wants to clear. Now available for $29.99 in the US, it doesn't seem to be available in any other regions, at least for now. That could of course change in time, if you've been wanting to get your hands on the GWP but haven't wanted to shell out for the minimum spend.

This sets an interesting precedent for GWPs; could any other future promotional sets that don't sell out end up on LEGO.com as purchasable sets in their own right? Only time will tell, but it's good news for fans of 40596 Magic Maze in the meantime.
