LEGO Icons 10318 Concorde's droop snoot required a pair of new bricks to best accommodate the shaping of the unique aircraft in LEGO.
LEGO designer Milan Madge and LEGO element designer Yoel Mazur are joined by Concorde pilot Jacky Ramon for the video, extending the insight beyond the LEGO Group's bounds. However, it's the exploration of 10318 Concorde from the designers that may be of particular interest to LEGO enthusiasts.
The engineering behind the LEGO droop snoot of 10318 Concorde is highlighted in the designer video, including how a pair of new elements accommodate the set's best feature.
"For the LEGO Concorde, we designed two new elements – one of them is a cone that is being used for the nose of the plane and the tail of the plane," explains Mazur. "I'm curious to see how our fans are going to use this for their own amazing builds."
"The second element is a type of visor or windscreen that is situated in the front of the plane on the nose and is being used when the nose goes down."
"The droop snoot was really challenging for us because one of the things we wanted to capture was the dual windscreens," shares Milan. "On the Concorde, there is a cockpit windscreen and there's a visor that goes in front of it for supersonic flight and that visor tilts down with the nose of the aircraft.
The new elements accommodate both the shaping and main feature of 10318 Concorde, realising the droop snoot in a way that only LEGO designers could have managed, with their access to the creation of new pieces. However, the shape of the bricks also seems to be perfectly compatible with other models too.
10318 Concorde is out now for £169.99 / $199.99 / €199.99 but is currently on back order in the UK.
