Ingenious Easter egg spotted in LEGO Jurassic World: Rebirth

The LEGO Jurassic World: Rebirth sets are causing a stir online for prices, the Mosasaurus and even an ingenious Easter egg for the book.

A full day has passed since the LEGO Group lifted the curtain on six upcoming LEGO Jurassic World sets based on the new Rebirth movie that are unlike anything we've seen before in theme for a few distinct reasons. From new dinosaurs to a brick-built Mosasaurus and curious pricing, plenty is being discussed in the online community.

PenPlays is focusing on the price of two of the six upcoming sets compared to the rest of the theme, noting that 76974 Brick-Built Mosasaurus Boat Mission and 76970 Baby Dinosaur Dolores: Aquilops have favourable price-per-part ratios thanks to their lack of giant moulded dinosaur elements.

Not everyone is quite so thrilled with the brick-built Mosasaurus after years of waiting for a new figure of the creature, including Ronin, who is disappointed in the new Mosasaurus model after a moulded version was featured in the LEGO Jurassic World game. It's a fair criticism to make, but with 858 pieces for £54.99 / $59.99 / €59.99, a future with entirely brick-built LEGO dinosaurs is somewhat tempting.

QuokkaSmiles87 instead focuses on the Adventurers-esque 76976 Spinosaurus & Quetzalcoatlus Air Mission, comparing its price of £139.99 / $149.99 / €149.99 with 984 pieces to 76949 Giganotosaurus & Therizinosaurus Attack with 810 elements for £119.99 / $139.99 / €139.99, since they both include two sizable dinosaurs.

It's another fair comparison to make, and it's worth noting that the dinosaurs in the retired set are bigger overall, with more minifigures to accompany (or run away screaming from) them. The temple aesthetic of 76976 Spinosaurus & Quetzalcoatlus Air Mission should still draw the attention of those missing LEGO Adventurers.

Rounding out the reactions, a few dedicated Jurassic Park fans such as those at Collect Jurassic noted that 76975 T. rex River Escape is not just based on the film but borrows an idea from the original novel (which the new film is seemingly adapting). The river raft scene from Michael Crichton's book was in original drafts for the first film, but it never saw the light of day, presumably due to the budget.

Now that the franchise is much bigger than before, this classic scene from literature seems to be finally getting the scene it deserves, just with a modern cast of characters. Even if this scene doesn't manage to make it into the final film, it has at least managed to inspire a new set with the most affordable LEGO T. rex ever.
