LEGO 10363 Leonardo da Vinci’s Flying Machine debuts two new collections

LEGO 10363 Leonardo da Vinci’s Flying Machine debuts two new collections

Like the LEGO Botanical Collection before it, LEGO Icons 10363 Leonardo da Vinci's Flying Machine has inadvertently debuted two new collections.

LEGO Icons will expand early next year with 10363 Leonardo da Vinci's Flying Machine and you can read our review of the historical and hypothetical recreation by clicking here. By paying tribute to the iconic historical figure and including a minifigure of Leonardo da Vinci alongside the model, the LEGO Group will be starting, accidentally or otherwise, two new collections on January 1, 2025.

One of these collections is almost certainly intentional, teased in lifestyle imagery and featuring a set that was released mere months before the upcoming 10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter but the other is a bit more unusual. Note that these two collections are by no means official, and neither are the names we've assigned to them.

The LEGO Leonardo da Vinci collection

The LEGO Leonardo da Vinci collection started with 31213 Mona Lisa in October 2024, based on Leonardo da Vinci's iconic painting. The LEGO Group is well aware that it will pair perfectly with 10363 Leonardo da Vinci's Flying Machine and the minifigure of the historical artist, picturing them together in official lifestyle images.

Their clear connections to the artist make them part of an unofficial, but tangible collection of LEGO sets aimed at an older audience.

The LEGO Ornithopter collection

That's not the only collection that 10363 Leonardo da Vinci's Flying Machine is part of though. The LEGO Icons 2025 model depicts an early hypothetical design for an Ornithopter, and it's not quite the first model of this vehicle in LEGO Icons.

Thanks to 10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter, the LEGO Ornithopter collection is unofficially starting in 2025 with just two members. While it will likely never be officially named, this is still one of the oddest LEGO collections and will likely continue to be as the LEGO portfolio grows.
