The LEGO Group takes another step to deepen its presence in the US with the opening of a new office hub in Boston.
A year and a half after the first look of the new hub was glimpsed, the LEGO Group has officially opened its new office at the Lyrik in Boston. This will be the company’s new American Hub, supporting its ongoing commitment to expanding into the US market with a planned team of over 800 colleagues.
"This fantastic new LEGO workspace is an important part of our US investment strategy, fast becoming a talent magnet in this important market," said LEGO Group CEO Niels B. Christiansen. "The Boston Hub will open up new ways for LEGO colleagues to create, connect, and grow as we continue our mission to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow across the US.”
Spanning more than 157,000 square feet over six floors, the office design is classically LEGO, with bright colours and areas for wellness activities, like meditation, prayer, relaxation, and – of course – play.
At the opening ceremony, the LEGO Group also reinforced its commitment to local children by announcing a $5 million philanthropic commitment over two years to increase access to play across the city. On June 11, the LEGO Group will help put Boston in play mode with its World Play Day celebrations.
“We have a long legacy of working with innovative Boston-based research and charitable partners to increase access to play for children here and around the world," said Colette Burke, Chief Commercial Officer at the LEGO Group. "We are proud that, through this $5 million charitable commitment, we will support partners who share our vision of leveraging the power of play to ignite children’s creativity and make a positive impact in their lives.”
Over the next two years, the LEGO Group will:
- Partner with the Boston Public Library (BPL) to fund playful learning experiences for children aged up to 13 at the Central Library and 25 neighbourhood branches across the city.
- Pilot a playful parenting resource for families welcoming babies born in Boston.
- Build on existing partnerships to expand their free playful learning programs.
Today’s opening marks is the latest push from the LEGO Group to expand and invest in its corporate arm in the US, coming just after the company announced plans to open a factory and regional distribution centre in Virginia in 2027, where it will employ around 2,000 people.
