LEGO Back to the Future 2026 set takes the community by storm

LEGO Speed Champions 77256 Time Machine from Back to the Future was revealed last week, and much of the internet's eyes have been latched onto the build following its debut. From Reddit to Facebook, here are some of the comments fans have shared regarding 77256 Time Machine from Back to the Future.

"It's the set I've been waiting for for years," shared giorgioblues on Reddit. "I just hope they'll include a hoverboard. If they do, it will be a set with everything that I wanted it to be."

Despite the lack of the hoverboard piece, which remains exclusive to a LEGO Dimensions level pack, this is one of many positive comments about the build online, though that's not to say the set has been without any criticism. Mutant Productions has shared their disappointment regarding a lack of iconic play features seen in the other LEGO DeLorean models.

"Doesn't look like there is a hoverboard, and it doesn't have the gull-wing doors, so it's not ideal," wrote openletter8 on Reddit. "But for only 28 bucks, I'll snap one up. It'll go next to the two previous ones on my mantle."

The critiques on the lack of opening doors are valid, despite LEGO Speed Champions sets never featuring such a function. Three of the four LEGO time machines have included the gull-wing doors, but for many fans online, the lack of these functions isn't enough to quell their excitement.

"This has to be one of the coolest LEGO sets in a while, and look at Marty's life preserver," said Excellent-Hat305 on the Back to the Future subreddit. "Is it a custom piece just for the set? I've never seen it!"

As many in the comments point out, Marty's jacket comes from LEGO DREAMZzz, but it is certainly appropriate for his 1985 attire. Another subject of discussion online following the reveal of 77256 Time Machine from Back to the Future has been the inevitable comparisons to the 2013 LEGO set, as well as Cam preparing to retire the model from their display.

"Do I already own the original Cuusoo/Ideas model, the pair of Dimensions packs and the large-scale Icons set?" queries Eric Weir on Facebook. "Yes. Will I still be getting this model as well? Also yes."

It's clear that the community is eager to get their hands on 77256 Time Machine from Back to the Future when it launches on January 1, 2026, retailing at £22.99 in the UK, $27.99 in the US, and from €27.99 in Europe. It's one of two LEGO Speed Champions sets currently confirmed for 2026, the other of which lacks a minifigure entirely.
