LEGO BIONICLE archive to save Brickshelf from shutdown

LEGO photo-sharing website Brickshelf has been saved from shutdown weeks before its demise by a fan-run LEGO BIONICLE internet archive.

Two weeks after the Brickshelf website updated with a shutdown notice – signalling that the important platform from the start of the LEGO community would be shutting down following the passing of its founder – Brickshelf has been saved.

The Wall of History team has announced that the fan-run BIONICLE internet archive will be acquiring Brickshelf starting in April. The site will remain online after all and users can continue to share and store their LEGO photos on the platform.

The Brickshelf website has not yet been updated to acknowledge this announcement, with the most recent update stating that the site will remain online until a buyer is found. Until such an update, take this news with a pinch of salt. For now, it would appear that the future is bright for Brickshelf.

Brickshelf was founded by Kevin Loch in 1999 as a space for adult fans of LEGO (AFOLs) to share pictures of their creations and collections in the crucial early days of the online LEGO community. The founder passed away last year, but at least their legacy will continue to live on.
