LEGO City soapbox piece and Speed Champions mix seamlessly

As we await the launch of the next Formula 1 sets and 71049 F1 Collectible Race Cars, the new LEGO City soapbox piece is perfect to tide us over.

There's not long left until the new LEGO Speed Champions Formula 1 sets race to shelves, bringing an all-new collection of realistic race cars to collect. There's also the upcoming 71049 F1 Collectible Race Cars series to look forward to in May, and there's still a fair bit of time left to wait for both releases.

Thankfully, ford4thot on the Speed Champions Reddit has devised a perfect way to pass the time and continue the fun with the new sets next month. They've determined that it's entirely possible to combine 76925 Aston Martin Safety Car & AMR23 with the small soapbox racer piece featured in a trio of new LEGO City sets.

In concept, this might seem ridiculous due to the entirely different scales of the soapbox vehicles and the realistic Speed Champions car. In reality, the combination works shockingly well.

Many of the pieces in 76925 Aston Martin Safety Car & AMR23 have been kept aside for this combination build, but the car is still recognisable as the Aston Martin Formula 1 model. The adorably small creation might be the perfect way to pass the time over the next couple of weeks and continue experimenting when the 10 new sets launch on March 1.

LEGO City 60459 Aeroplane vs. Hospital Bed 2 1024x604

You can pick up the new soapbox racer chassis piece now in 60458 Pizza vs. Fire Truck Race Car Pack, 60459 Airplane vs. Hospital Bed Race Car Pack and 60460 No Limits: Race Car Ramp Track. Wheels that use a standard pin connection will fit on the chassis as long as they aren't too big.

Those hoping to create a collection of miniature LEGO Formula 1 cars that sit between the 10 minifigure-scale models and 71049 F1 Collectible Race Cars can practise with the current models now before the new range launches on March 1. For the curious, ford4thot has shared the instructions for this odd crossover on Rebrickable for free.
