The LEGO BrickLink Designer Program may not allow modular buildings now, but that hasn't stopped the community from building around the rule.
Before the start of Series 6 the BrickLink team announced new guidelines for the LEGO BrickLink Designer Program, which most notably included a ban on buildings that were distinctly designed to fit with the official Modular Buildings Collection.
With the start of Series 6's crowd vote stage, we've spotted a few buildings that appear to be designed around this new rule. Some buildings are more obviously designed with parts of the modular street in mind but have been removed just enough from the series to pass into this round.
Others are more obviously intended to be displayed on the modular street, including Bind-Design Factory Store by LegHo complete with everything aside from Technic pin connection points on the side. It even still has the white lamppost but with a modified design.
Some are even remakes of previous submissions that didn't find success in other series, now modified to be far enough removed from the modular system to be eligible under the new guidelines. These include modified versions of The Art Factory by brickester, changing the street at the bottom to be built on its side rather than on a baseplate, but retaining almost everything else.
Northpoint School from KingCreations has also received a makeover with a wider base, a modified fence and a standalone street on the exterior that would not be compatible with the official collection without modification.
The community's creativity is noticeable in Series 6, though the other guidelines that have been introduced are harder to build around, prohibiting models based on NINJAGO, DREAMZzz, Friends and Monkie Kid as well as zoos, aquariums and other similar facilities.
