The LEGO Group may be on track to release a record number of sets in 2023

With just over five months of the year left to go, it looks as if the LEGO Group may well be on track to release a record number of sets in 2023.

August 1 is nearly here and with it will come multiple new LEGO models covering a variety of themes, price points and piece counts. Beyond that, September and October 2023 are already shaping up to be interesting months for LEGO fans and collectors, with a number of Star Wars, Marvel and Harry Potter sets already having been officially revealed.

Of course, beyond that we have had rumours of some potential builds to come, making the run-up to Christmas a potentially busy and expensive period ahead. One hint as to just how hectic things might get in the next few months can possibly be gleaned from the LEGO Group’s building instructions page.

The official site has listings for a number of sets released over the past 23 years (although not all) and 2023 certainly looks set to be another record-breaker. So far, a total of 418 LEGO models have been added to the database for this year, but that’s a figure that will most likely only continue to increase over the coming months. The listing for 2022 includes 427 sets, 2021 racked up 444 and there are 436 for 2016, although it is worth noting that some of those figures do include gifts sets of existing models bundled together for specific retailers, such as Walmart in the US.

With that in mind, there’s still a distinct possibility that 2023 could go on to exceed the total of releases for previous years, with just 27 model launches required to beat 2021’s impressive record. It's also worth noting that the building instructions page is updated on a semi-regular basis, so there’s no way of knowing when or how many potential new sets could be added to it over the next few months, but rest assured we’ll be reporting on any previously-unseen builds as-and-when they appear.
