LEGO Ideas 21345 Polaroid makes great use of a unique new element

There’s a unique new element included with LEGO Ideas 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera that could appear in future sets.

The latest LEGO Ideas model was officially revealed last week, with 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera due to launch on January 1, 2024 for £69.99 / $79.99 / €79.99. The 516-piece set is based on an original fan submission from Marc (aka Minibrick Productions) and marks the debut of the iconic camera in LEGO form.

21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera went through a very unique development period, one that included a request from Polaroid CEO Oskar Smolokowski to make pressing the shutter button actually eject a picture. The LEGO Ideas team managed to do just that, thanks to a nifty internal mechanism that also delivers a satisfying sound when doing so.

YouTuber Cheesey Studios has taken a closer look at the upcoming 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera, focusing on one specific new element included in the LEGO Ideas set – its three photographs. Instead of being stickered tiles, the pieces are instead made from a thin sheet of matte polypropylene plastic that features printing on both sides.

The video discusses just how well the new elements work when ejected from the Polaroid camera, how the size of the photographs measures 8x10 studs and that three of the pieces stacked on top of each other is roughly the same height as a single LEGO plate.

In addition, Cheesey Studios mentions that the photograph elements are similar to the kind of window inserts used for the sliding doors in 76405 Hogwarts Express Collectors’ Edition and some NINJAGO models. It’s entirely possible that the unique photograph pieces could well pop up in potential future LEGO sets, but there’s been confirmation of that so far.
