The second teaser for the LEGO Ideas Dungeons & Dragons set looks closer to a runner-up in the original challenge than the winning build.
A Mimic disguised as a chest has joined the Gelatinous Cube in the collection of teasers for the upcoming LEGO Ideas Dungeons & Dragons model. While the Gelatinous Cube was a non-LEGO prop with a minifigure and pieces floating within it, the Mimic is an entirely brick-built model that undergoes a terrifying transformation.
Its scale is bigger than that of the minifigure and accessories featured in the first teaser, but it's sized big enough to fit a standard 20-sided die inside. BoltBuilds' winning project that will inspire the upcoming set is minifigure scale, which doesn't match up with the brick-built Mimic in the teaser.
This may be a build made specifically and solely for the teaser, but the fact that it transforms in the video might remind you of another project that could have been the LEGO D&D set.
Farmfarm's Transforming Mimic is similarly disguised as a brown and grey chest with purple innards and piercing yellow eyes. Unlike the project, the way that the teaser Mimic transforms is impossible to replicate physically as pieces appear out of thin air. Though it ended up as a runner-up in the LEGO Ideas D&D challenge, this new teaser could be a homage to what could have been an official model.
Alternatively, it might simply be a coincidence and have no relation or intended reference to the LEGO Ideas challenge entry. We might never know the truth but at least Farmfarm might choose to take it as a thoughtful Easter egg in the run-up to the official set's reveal.
Two teasers for the LEGO Ideas Dungeons & Dragons model have now been released and it has yet to be seen whether we will be faced with a third or see the reveal next.
