LEGO Ideas fan designer celebrates 40th anniversary of Terry Pratchett's first Discworld novel

The tenth LEGO Ideas set in the third 2024 review pays homage to Terry Pratchett's first Discworld novel for its 40th anniversary.

Designed by BrickMorpork and the first project from their designer to reach the 10k Club, The Discworld Unseen University Library depicts – you guessed it – the Unseen Library from Terry Pratchett's first Discworld novel, The Colour of Magic. The book was first published in 1983 and celebrated its 40th anniversary last year, when the fan design was first released.

The build features the assistant librarian, wiz(z)ard Rincewind, and a tentacle sneaking up on the unsuspecting buildable character as they're browsing the shelves of books. There's also a bust of Terry Pratchett to pay homage to the beloved author and the Unseen University Librarian who was turned into an orangutan after a mishap with a magic spell in the second Discworld book, A Light Fantastic.

The project as you see it now had to be adapted to fit under the 3,000-piece limit – something that now doesn't apply. Still, it packs in a lot of detail and has clearly impressed enough people to reach the all-important 10,000 supporter milestone.

Remind yourself of The Discworld Unseen University Library's competition in the table below.
