LEGO Ideas Tribute to Galileo Galilei is the latest in a series of similar GWPs

The upcoming 40595 Tribute to Galileo Galilei will follow in the footsteps of similar LEGO GWPs based around famous historical figures.

We got our first official look at an upcoming LEGO Ideas GWP yesterday, with the reveal of 40595 Tribute to Galileo Galilei helpfully provided by the Australian LEGO online store. The 307-piece promotional model has since been confirmed to be available from November 1 to 16 (or while stocks last) with spends of £130 / $130 / €130 and over.

40595 Tribute to Galileo Galilei is based on a concept by fan designer Firecracker_ who won the Ready, Set, Go STEM! challenge back in 2022. The finished retail version of the set includes a minifigure of astronomer Galileo Galilei himself and a brick-built scene recreating his research room, complete with various scientific equipment and stickered elements.

The arrival of 40595 Tribute to Galileo Galilei marks the latest addition in a semi-series of similar GWP sets celebrating famous historical figures. In 2021 we received 40450 Amelia Earhart Tribute, a 200-piece model free with qualifying purchases, one that came with a recreation of the ground-breaking aviator’s bright red Lockheed 5B Vega and a minifigure of Amelia Earhart too.

That was followed in 2022 by 40530 Jane Goodall Tribute, a 272-piece GWP set released to honour the important work of the renowned primatologist and anthropologist. The freebie model included a brick-built jungle-setting scene, complete with a minifigure of Jane Goodall and three chimpanzees.

Then, just last year, came 40579 Eiffel’s Apartment, a 228-piece LEGO Icons build released to accompany the launch of 10307 Eiffel Tower. The GWP promo proved to be the perfect accompaniment to the massive set and featured a vignette of the room, plus a minifigure of the Eiffel Tower’s designer, engineer Gustave Eiffel.

Although 40595 Tribute to Galileo Galilei is specifically branded and packaged as a LEGO Ideas set, it certainly does seem to follow in the spiritual footsteps of those previous builds. That's despite the lack of a similar black display base, stickered plaque or larger companion model, some of which are present in the promotional builds mentioned above.

Those looking to add the upcoming GWP to their collections can judge the results for themselves when 40595 Tribute to Galileo Galilei becomes available from November 1 to 16 and we’ll have a full review of the LEGO Ideas set soon.
