LEGO Ideas' Peanuts and Pokémon have something in common

A pair of LEGO reveals from this week – Peanuts and Pokémon – have something in common as the LEGO Group makes business-savvy moves.

The LEGO Group has had an exciting week, from the announcement of LEGO Pokémon in 2026 to the results of the second 2024 review from earlier today. The latter confirmed that a sea otter model and another inspired by Peanuts' Snoopy and Woodstock will be coming to LEGO Ideas in the future too, possibly next year looking at past LEGO Ideas releases.

When the Snoopy set is released, the two releases will have something incredibly specific in common – they both are based on licenses that have been plucked from a rival toy manufacturer.

As discussed in a comprehensive report earlier this week, MEGA has a long history of brick-built Pokémon products, but it will be relinquishing the Pokémon license as of December 2025 so that the franchise can make its way to the LEGO Group in 2026.

In much the same way, the LEGO Group will seemingly be plucking the Peanuts license from China-based Banbao, who focused on Peanuts models with small posable figures instead of the buildable Snoopy and Woodstock campfire model coming from the LEGO Group. Banbao acquired the license for Peanuts in 2018 and other brands have jumped on the franchise too, though we can only confirm that Banbao had officially licensed sets.

The LEGO Group will be taking both Peanuts and Pokémon starting in 2026, making some business-savvy moves that inevitably will cause comparisons between rival brands' products and their own. Either way, it's an intriguing coincidence for both partnerships to be announced in the same week.

Further details on LEGO Pokémon have yet to surface but stay tuned for any announcements in the weeks and months ahead. Click here to see exactly what's to come from LEGO Ideas as of February 2025.
