The CEO of Polaroid made one big request during the development of 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera – a function that had to be included.
The 53rd LEGO Ideas model was officially revealed yesterday, with 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera due to launch on January 1, 2024 for £69.99 / $79.99 / €79.99. The 516-piece set is based on an original fan submission from Marc (aka Minibrick Productions) and represents the debut of the iconic SLR camera in LEGO form.

In addition, the interview also reveals that Polaroid CEO Oskar Smolokowski had one specific request for the LEGO Ideas design team, a challenge that would require an ingenious creative solution. Smolokowski wanted the big red capture button on the front of the camera to actually do something.
“I really wanted the camera to be as much of a camera as possible,” stated the CEO, a suggestion that came up in the first kick-off meeting between the two companies. LEGO Ideas creative lead Jordan David Scott said he would look into the request, throwing down the gauntlet to fellow designer James May to come up with a solution.
