LEGO is testing an initiative where you could make money from old bricks

If you've got some old boxes of LEGO elements, today might be your lucky day, with the LEGO Group testing out an initiative for you to make money from your old bricks.

After hints from the LEGO Group's Head of Sustainability Tim Brooks that the company would be looking into finding good uses for old bricks lying around in people's homes, it seems an early version of the initiative is now in its infancy in Germany. German LEGO fans can sign up for the first LEGO Trade In Your Bricks via this page, where builders can earn from €8 in LEGO gift cards per kilo if they trade in their old bricks.

There are some rules to this, however. The bricks must be loose and unconnected (no handing in fully-built sets) and in good condition. LEGO Technic, DUPLO, and electric elements are not accepted, and neither are minifigures, minidolls, wheels, and elements with printed or stickered decoration.

If you've got bricks that tick the LEGO Group's boxes, though, all you need to do is take them down to a pick-up point. The only one available right now is in MyZeil in Frankfurt between October 17 and October 28 from 10am to 8pm, with Germany being the test ground for the initiative for the moment. However, we can only assume if it goes well in Germany, it could well roll out for the rest of the world.

If you're in and around the Frankfurt area or are able to travel, you can find out more about the initiative here. If you register online on that page, you'll get a QR code that make sit quicker to drop off your bricks at the Frankfurt drop-off point.
