There's a new joint in
Following the official reveal of
During a roundtable interview with Brick Fanatics and other LEGO fan media, the designer behind the new skeleton model offered some important insight into the joint, confirming that it was designed for a currently unrevealed build.
"This is what we call the XXL joint, and it was funnily enough, not designed for this," explained designer Benjamin Liboriussen. "We have had this in the works for some time. It was Janko Grujic who made the original design some time ago, and we designed this to enhance our creature builds."
There's no indication of which set the XXL joint was originally designed for, but it will be worth looking out for it in other upcoming releases as such a strong connection is sure to be monumental for creatures, mechs and buildable figures alike.
"When you're building a bigger creature, we want that even stronger joint," continued Benjamin. "So I don't know if you have had the opportunity to play with it yet, but it is tough to turn because it's got some strength to it, but as long as you put some leverage in it, you can turn it and position it as you want.

"And for the head, we made it so you could position it in any position you want to display it. So we're launching this with the skeleton, but it was not made for the skeleton."
The range of movement on this XXL joint is impressive but not comprehensive. Still, such a strong joint is sure to be useful for whatever else the LEGO designers have planned and in development.
