There will soon be two massive LEGO Mario Kart models on shelves, and we can see how they stack up next to one another on display or in play.
Both 72037 Mario & Standard Kart and 72050 Luigi & Mach 8 are certain to make up a great LEGO Mario Kart display, but there's more to do with these sets than just sitting them next to one another. We can see in official imagery that 72050 Luigi & Mach 8 can be removed from the display stand, just like in 72037 Mario & Standard Kart. A video showcasing the functionality of the two vehicles has been shared online, highlighting one big difference between them.
While both 72037 Mario & Standard Kart and 72050 Luigi & Mach 8 have turning wheels, the 2026 build has one additional feature over the 2025 model. When the back wheels spin, a jet of flame at the back spins accordingly, just like in the game when you boost.
It gives the newer set an edge over 72037 Mario & Standard Kart, though it's a feature you'll only see when playing with the model. Now that there are two of these larger LEGO Mario Kart models, you'll have much more incentive to do just that anyway. The video from Nintendo already demonstrates the play potential when you race them against one another.
Other differences between the two sets aren't quite as comparable since they depict different karts and characters. In terms of the statistics, 72050 Luigi & Mach 8 has around 300 more elements than 72037 Mario & Standard Kart for £10 / $10 / €10 more, and is being released just under 11 months later.
72037 Mario & Standard Kart is available right now, and 72050 Luigi & Mach 8 is up for pre-order ahead of April 1, 2026. The scaled Spiny Shell LEGO Insiders reward is currently out of stock in many regions, but can still be acquired for 2,500 points in parts of Europe.
