LEGO NINJAGO designers reveal details about the next season

The latest batch of information has revealed more details about NINJAGO's next season and future sets straight from the designers.

Following the official reveal of the January 2025 LEGO NINJAGO sets on the online store earlier today, videos from Fan Media Days 2024 have revealed some interesting new details about the sets and season directly from designers Lee Chi Wing and Niek van Slagmaat.

A new video from the event via DuckBricks has shared everything from this season's collectable item to how the minifigure designers prepared for the latest team of villains years in advance. Spoilers will follow for next season, but all of this information has now been officially revealed.

Prismatic Blades

Scattered across several sets, but not using a new element are the Prismatic Blades –a series of five transparent katanas that the Forbidden Five need in order to free someone, though the designers said in Bricks by Mind's video that they will be used to free something. In terms of the sets, they're included in 71834 Zane's Ultra Combiner Mech, 71827 Zane's Battle Suit Mech, 71833 Ras and Arin's Super Storm Jet and 71830 Kai's Mech Storm Rider.

More minifigures from the first realm

The Dragonians, while not confirmed precisely to actually be villains despite their role in the new January 2025 sets, are more inhabitants of the first realm after the Dragon Hunters in a previous season of NINJAGO. Given their draconic armour, this makes sense as the first realm is home to the dragons.

Nokt's elemental power

The most notable reveal from the latest information drop is the identity of Nokt's elemental power. Since the Forbidden Five member was allowed in the tournament last season, we knew that he had a power of some kind but exactly what it is wasn't named. Now, the designers have confirmed that it is the element of brute force. Whether we've seen this power in action yet was not confirmed, but it seems unlikely.

71834 Zane's Ultra Combiner Mech isn't a mech

Despite the set name, it turns out that 71834 Zane's Ultra Combiner Mech isn't a mech at all. While it has been designed to be a mech for either Zane or Riyu and Zane's new enlarged form can detach from the mech – it turns out that the entirety of the mech is Zane. Zane seems set to undergo a massive transformation next season, but there's another secret regarding this mech still to come.

The Forbidden Five minifigures were made years in advance

The Forbidden Five are officially the next team of villains for NINJAGO after Nokt was introduced separately last season and a lot of preparation was needed to make sure that these villains were physically able to be minifigures.

"There was a lot of work put into making sure that the Forbidden Five were characters that we could produce as minifigures, then show them in the TV show almost two years before they came out," expalained Niek to DuckBricks, also mentioning to Bricks by Mind that this is why they were shrouded in shadow in earlier appearances – in case elements needed to change.

At the time of writing, the LEGO NINJAGO 2025 sets only feature two of the Forbidden Five so it seems that we'll be getting the rest of the villainous group later this year based on this quote.

Zane's mech has a third form

The last of the reveals from the videos detail 71834 Zane's Ultra Combiner Mech has a third form aside from the mech and individual vehicle modes. By connecting the legs and hunching the mech forward in a seated position, you have what is described as a battle truck. 71834 Zane's Ultra Combiner Mech launches next year for £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99.
