LEGO NINJAGO Legends: Monstrosity set concepts revealed

LEGO NINJAGO Legends: Monstrosity set concepts revealed

Concept builds for the two LEGO NINJAGO Legends: Monstrosity sets have been revealed ahead of the series' release tomorrow.

It turns out that LEGO NINJAGO Legends: Monstrosity is just around the corner. Following the premiere of Monstrosity at Brickworld Chicago this weekend, it was confirmed that the series would be released tomorrow, June 15. A premiere is available on YouTube to easily discover precisely when Monstrosity starts in your timezone.

Reports from the premiere confirm that the series is 15 minutes long, across a trio of five-minute shorts, and those in attendance were shown concept art for the series, as well as its only two sets. Both 71846 The Fire Knight Mech and 71847 The Guardian Dragon have changed a lot in the development process, and now we can appreciate the two final designs accordingly.

71846 The Fire Knight Mech and 71847 The Guardian Dragon are available now in most regions alongside the latest wave of LEGO NINJAGO sets.

71847 The Fire Knight Mech

The 996-piece 71846 The Fire Knight Mech features a mech poised above a monstrous creature, and this concept has been a constant throughout the design process. The exact shaping of the base and layout of the monster has substantially changed, and at one point, a series of waves and splashes was pitched, but ultimately toned down for the final build.

Earlier in the design process, 71846 The Fire Knight Mech was going to include a smaller dragon as well, drastically changing the layout of the build, but it would appear that the dragon was eventually expanded on its own set, 71847 The Guardian Dragon. The colour scheme of the mech was blue at one point too, but whether this was only for the concept stage, or the story of Monstrosity was originally going to focus on Jay is unknown.

71847 The Guardian Dragon

The larger, 1,650-piece 71847 The Guardian Dragon has changed a lot from concept to final design, but one fact has remained the same – the giant green dragon with wings spread out. It's the rest of the model that has substantially changed during development.

Concept images show that the mountain and shrine were at one point expanded into larger versions of both builds, complete with more foliage and a distinct lack of the curved black base that both Monstrosity sets use. The final design downsized both aspects of the set, keeping the focuses almost entirely on the huge dragon.
