LEGO partners with Sam Ryder for new space competition

The LEGO Group is launching a new competition to blast messages into space and they've enlisted the help of singer and songwriter Sam Ryder.

The LEGO Group's love of space in 2024 has gone from sets to Fortnite and is now expanding to a new competition looking for messages to send into space. The contest is looking for videos documenting your ideal space adventure and you can be creative in how you tell that story. Send that video to the LEGO Group via the official webpage for a chance to have your message sent to space.

Winners will get to watch their messages being sent into space at a special viewing party in July, hosted by singer and songwriter Sam Ryder and Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocok DBE. Further details will be officially released at a later date. To promote the contest, Ryder features in a new video recently shared online.

“My first memory of experiencing the sensation of ‘awe’ was learning about space," commented Sam Ryder. "Whether it’s the infinite possibilities of other worlds orbiting distant stars or the questions surrounding who we are and life itself, it all continues to be a source of wonderment for people all across our little pale blue dot.

"As a kid, I would have loved the chance to transmit a message toward the stars to perhaps be picked up by someone or something in a billion years or so. Imagine a song drifting through the heavens like that! I can’t wait to hear all the amazing ideas from the next generation of cosmic explorers!”

“Space offers an endless frontier of fun and adventure for kids, "shared Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocok DBE. "It’s something many children get obsessed with from an early age. We’re now in the most exciting time for space exploration and education since the moon landing, and initiatives like this from The LEGO Group can really help to educate kids on the opportunities to have an exciting career in all things space and science.”

The Message to Space contest is open from June 4 to July 1 and a countdown on the webpage suggests that the viewing party will take place on July 20.
