LEGO promises ‘most detailed Hogwarts ever’ for 2024

Digging into the set listings for the LEGO Harry Potter March sets reveals the LEGO Group is planning some big for the theme.

Three of the eight LEGO Harry Potter sets released on March 1 all appear to be a part of yet another multi-set LEGO Hogwarts Castle construction. There have been multiple iterations of Hogwarts Castle over the years, with two multi-set options running from 2018 to 2020 and 2021 to 2023. Before that, the LEGO Harry Potter team tried out various smaller Hogwarts Castle sets, experimenting with different styles, alongside seven complete LEGO Hogwarts Castle sets we've had as well.

Now, the LEGO Group appears to be starting fresh once again in what's promised to be 'the most detailed LEGO brick-built Hogwarts Castle scene ever'. The inaugural trio of sets are 76426 Hogwarts Castle Boathouse, 76428 Hagrid’s Hut: An Unexpected Visit, and 76430 Hogwarts Castle Owlery.

How might a new LEGO Hogwarts Castle work?

It's hard to see exactly how these sets will end up fitting together. The LEGO Harry Potter listings describe them as modular but there are no ways for 76428 Hagrid’s Hut: An Unexpected Visit and 76430 Hogwarts Castle Owlery can physically attach to future sets, which we can confirm having had early access to both of these sets. Admittedly, both of these locations are physically separate from the rest of the school in the films too, so they might be intended to be displayed separate from the rest of the brick-built models.

However, in the case of 76426 Hogwarts Castle Boathouse, as LEGO YouTuber Holly on Film points out in her review, there are actually two small clips that could be used to attach the set to other parts of the school. It's not confirmed yet what the intention of these clips are and Holly herself speculates that you could attach two of the spare oars to them. However, the supposedly modular nature of this new multi-set Hogwarts Castle would suggest there is some way of physically attaching the sets to one another.

Why 76426 Hogwarts Castle Boathouse has clips where the other two don't remains unclear for now, however. After all, 76426 Hogwarts Castle Boathouse is equally if not even further removed from the main body of the school as 76428 Hagrid’s Hut: An Unexpected Visit and 76430 Hogwarts Castle Owlery in the films.

'The most detailed LEGO brick-built Hogwarts Castle scene ever'

In terms of the LEGO Group's claims of this being the most detailed LEGO brick-built Hogwarts Castle scene ever, we're tentatively in agreement from what we've seen so far. While in our review for 76430 Hogwarts Castle Owlery we touched on the lack of interior details, the exterior of the set is undeniably impressive and 76428 Hagrid’s Hut: An Unexpected Visit provides enough detail inside and out to make up for it.

It's also interesting to see some of the new consistent building styles unifying the sets, even with only three released so far. The snow on the turrets of both 76426 Hogwarts Castle Boathouse and 76430 Hogwarts Castle Owlery suggests that this will be a wintry Hogwarts Castle and there's also some new, consistent tree designs, with upturned ferns used to represent Hogwarts' pine trees.

We'll be waiting with bated breath to see where the LEGO Harry Potter team takes us next in its fresh exploration of the wizarding school. For now, here's a reminder of all the new LEGO Harry Potter sets released on March 1.
