This summer’s LEGO Jurassic World line-up includes what seems to be a remake of a set that’s still on shelves – but with one huge difference…
The LEGO Group has just unveiled its next wave of dino-themed sets, which takes in everything from Jurassic Park III (right on time for its 25th anniversary) to Jurassic World: Rebirth. You’ll find the latter movie represented in 77983 Mosasaurus Dinosaur Boat Attack, a 703-piece model that includes a boat, a mosasaurus and three Jurassic World: Rebirth characters. Sound familiar? It should.

Released last summer in conjunction with Gareth Edwards’ movie and still available to buy at LEGO.com is 76974 Brick-Built Mosasaurus Boat Mission, an 858-piece model that also includes a boat, a mosasaurus and a couple of Jurassic World: Rebirth minifigures. It’s also £35 cheaper than the 2026 set in the UK – a difference easily explained away by the two sets’ approach to their eponymous dinosaur.
The 2025 model elected to fashion its mosasaurus from standard LEGO elements, breaking away from the norm for LEGO Jurassic World with impressive results. 77983 Mosasaurus Dinosaur Boat Attack, on the other hand, reverts to form by introducing the first moulded mosasaurus under the Jurassic World banner.

In a way it feels like the LEGO Group is trying to course-correct last year’s set, which is perhaps not too surprising given the reaction to the brick-built mosa was decidedly mixed when first revealed in February 2025. But while initial responses to this new version are broadly positive, it’s still unprecedented to see the Jurassic World theme so quickly revisit an identical concept – not least because it wasn’t the only option on the table.
The mosasaurus showed up in the first three Jurassic World films alongside the Camp Cretaceous TV series, so the LEGO Group had ample source material from which it could conjure up a set for a new moulded version. Instead we’ve gone straight back to an existing model, and while the boat looks quite different and there’s a helicopter here too, the minifigure line-up plants it squarely in Rebirth territory.

77983 Mosasaurus Dinosaur Boat Attack includes minifigures of Zora Bennett, Dr. Henry Loomis and Duncan Kincaid, the latter of which appears to be a brand new variant. That’s at least an entirely different line-up to 76974 Brick-Built Mosasaurus Boat Mission, which includes only LeClerc and Atwater minifigures.
If we’re reaching for reasons the LEGO Group may have returned to Rebirth in particular here, it is at least the most recent appearance of the mosasaurus on screen, so maybe freshest in the mind of fans. But the rest of the LEGO Jurassic World summer 2026 sets prove that the LEGO Group isn’t afraid to delve back into the history of the franchise…
Would you rather have seen the moulded mosaurus show up in a different set, or are you just happy to get your hands on one at all? If the latter, you’ll be able to buy 77983 Mosasaurus Dinosaur Boat Attack from August 1, 2026 for £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99. Check out the full LEGO Jurassic World 2026 line-up below.
