LEGO Star Wars 2025 MTT rumour suggests it won’t be a Phantom Menace set

Another rumour source has weighed in on reports of a new MTT coming to LEGO Star Wars in 2025, suggesting it won’t be hooked to The Phantom Menace.

Instead, Instagram user lego_minecraft_goat has teased a dark blue and grey take on the Separatist vehicle in their latest story, mirroring the vehicle’s colour scheme in the Clone Wars animated series (and 2012's 30059 MTT polybag) rather than the brown livery of the Trade Federation MTT in The Phantom Menace. That would make our fourth minifigure-scale MTT playset the first to deviate from the Episode I aesthetic.

This latest update comes hot on the heels of yesterday’s initial rumour from fateful_04, who claims 75435 MTT will launch in August 2025 for $149.99. And it puts to bed notions that this year’s May the 4th gift-with-purchase 40686 Trade Federation Troop Carrier may have been designed as a complementary model (albeit more than a year out and with limited availability), because that set was indeed tied to The Phantom Menace.

What this update does do, however, is open the door to a more obscure and unique minifigure selection. Obviously a metric tonne of Battle Droids is already high on the ‘must-have’ list, but a handful of never-before-seen Separatist candidates could now be on the cards, such as Wat Tambor or Admiral Trench (the LEGO Group has never been shy about including characters with only thematic rather than narrative links to sets).

At the same time, this could be a solid opportunity to bring Count Dooku (last seen in 2013) or General Grievous (last seen in 2020) back to the LEGO Star Wars minifigure line-up. The potential for a promising counterpart to 75354 Coruscant Guard Gunship – taking an iconic vehicle and painting it in fresh colours with new characters – is there. Here’s hoping the LEGO Group seizes it.

That’s if 75435 MTT arrives as rumoured, of course. Best to take it with the customary grain of salt for the time being.
