LEGO Star Wars 75402 ARC-170 Starfighter modifications are already appearing

Major modifications to LEGO Star Wars 75402 ARC-170 Starfighter are already starting to surface, but the first might change too much of the set.

Ahead of the release of 75402 ARC-170 Starfighter next month, PiXEL-DAN on Reddit has taken a shot at reworking the official build to add more detail, before they've even had the chance to build the official version themselves.

The fan-designed version has more accurate shaping on the nose and completely rebuilds the wings to feature elements pointing in more directions than just up as they are in 75402 ARC-170 Starfighter. The body appears to be mostly the same aside from the modified nose but does introduce a Speed Champions windscreen element instead of the Star Wars piece.

Some of the comments point out that the build is substantially different than that of the official set and is less of a modification and more of a rework.

"It's nice but it almost crosses into MOC (a custom LEGO model) territory," explains Zeaus03. A mod, to me at least, would be a few extra pieces you have on hand. Not a decent-sized BrickLink order to completely change the size and shape of the ship."

Other comments are not entirely convinced with the redesign, though they admit it has quite a few advantages over the official set.

"I'm conflicted about this," shares GoldenLiar2. "The nose is absolutely stunning, and I'm probably going to buy the instructions for that alone. The same goes for the back cockpit and that area. That said, I don't like the engines, I think they aren't any better than the original, and I think building the wings in full SNOT is just kinda wasteful when it comes to parts and makes them look way too thick."
