The LEGO Group has revealed 75428 Battle Droid with STAP on May the 4th, a set that should be a slam dunk – but does it nail the landing?
Coming soon on July 1, the 1,088-piece LEGO Star Wars set offers up another buildable droid, returning to the iconic tan prequel trilogy droid. The buildable figure can be posed riding on a giant STAP vehicle, or standing on its own two brick-built feet and will retail for £119.99 / $139.99 / €129.99.
For LEGO Star Wars fans like our own video editor Matthew, 75428 Battle Droid with STAP tugs on the nostalgic heartstrings in a number of ways. It evokes the prequel era of Star Wars movies that many grew up with, while also being a modernised version of the Technic battle droid we got in 2000 with 8001 Battle Droid.
Nostalgic sets are often a slam dunk, so long as they're done well – but there's a little something missing in the robust design of the figure itself and in its smaller battle droid minifigure-scale counterpart. Join Matthew in our latest video to discuss 75428 Battle Droid with STAP in depth, including what he likes about it and what opportunity might have been missed.
