LEGO Star Wars Jabba’s Sail Barge impresses, until fans see the price

The community may not agree on much, but one aspect of LEGO Star Wars 75397 Jabba’s Sail Barge has united them in initial reactions.

Following the reveal of LEGO Star Wars 75397 Jabba’s Sail Barge earlier this week, the return of this vehicle and some iconic minifigures have impressed fans across the internet, though none can completely ignore the cost of this creation.

Early reactions to the build have praised various aspects of the new set – especially the minifigures. Many have been immediately drawn to the likes of Jabba, Leia and Max Rebo, but kixnstyx on X has instead been taken by one of the other new minifigures in 75397 Jabba’s Sail Barge

The new face is sure to be handy in depicting Kadas'sa'Nikto characters such as Neeku and they'll pair well with the retired LEGO Star Wars Resistance sets and their minifigures from 2019.

As impressive as the new minifigures are, there are some glaring omissions in the set as sTevieD247 on Reddit points out, "Love all the minifigs, but could have used Luke in his black with the green lightsaber. Him landing on the barge, igniting the saber and taking out guards is one of the lasting memories of the whole scene."

Sroomek chimes in to note that such a minifigure is included in 75396 Desert Skiff & Sarlacc Pit, which the new LEGO Star Wars set has been seemingly designed to complement.

"I wish the skiff came separately from the Sarlacc," commented sroomek. "People only need one Sarlacc, but they would’ve bought multiple skiffs to make the complete scene."

The discussion of the contents in 75397 Jabba's Sail Barge for £429.99 / $499.99 / €499.99 has been avid over the past few days, especially in relation to the number of minifigures compared to other sets. For context, the LEGO Star Wars set includes 9 minifigures and 3,942 pieces.

"Even just for $500 — the minifigures they included are cool, but come on, for that money throw in another dozen at least like they had with Mos Eisley cantina to really recreate the scene," replies smilesbuckett. "I get that the scale can’t necessarily accommodate every figure, but the value for dollar spent is just getting worse and worse."

Justinarts agrees with the sentiment on X, directly comparing the contents of 75397 Jabba's Sail Barge to 76269 Avengers Tower, which includes 5,201 pieces and 29 minifigures (including some common variants) for £429.99 / $499.99 / €499.99.

The subject of price was raised in an entirely different context by Oliver Jia, who is wrestling between paying rent or picking up the LEGO Star Wars set next month.

Back on Reddit, the 40730 Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber gift-with-purchase is being praised too with death-by_snu_snu_ and lordofmetroids agreeing that they favour the gift-with-purchase over the latest Sail Barge build.

40730 Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber will be available from October 3 to 10 (or while stocks last) exclusively with purchases of 75397 Jabba’s Sail Barge. You can read our review of the gift by clicking here and clicking here for a closer look at the main UCS model.
