LEGO Star Wars UCS Venator compromises when it comes to hangars

The newly-revealed LEGO Star Wars 75367 Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser is missing an obvious interactive opportunity.

While 75367 Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser is an impressive display build, it does appear to be somewhat lacking when it comes moving elements and interactivity. We haven't yet got our hands on the set (although stay tuned for a review coming soon) but it looks like a fairly static set.

This means that there's one pretty cool function of the Venator that's lacking: the main hangar doors opening. While they're marked by the red detailing along the top of the main body of the shop, it doesn't look the doors actually happen. For such a hefty price tag (£559.99 / $649.99 / €649.99), this is quite the same, although we'd imagine it has something to do with stability and whether the mechanism to open the doors would fit inside the long, narrow build. Still, it means that the brick-built version of the Venator won't be able to recreate tension-fuelled moments like this:

On screen, the Venator was able to open up the main hangar doors to allow huge numbers of ships to pour out into battle. The flipside of the move is that it left the cruiser vulnerable to attack during these moments – perfect for nail-biting moments during battles.

Still, while 75367 Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser doesn't include the option to open up the main hangar doors, there is still a nod to the amount of storage that we know is hidden inside the enormous cruiser, with Venators typically being able to transport carried a complement of 420 fighters, as well as an array of shuttles. The side of the cruise features a snapshot inside the hangar, including a teeny-tiny Republic Gunship (which you can find in more detail in the recently-released 75354 Coruscant Guard Gunship).

It's a cute inclusion and it also accurately conveys the sheer size of the monstrously large Venators. While 75367 Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser may not be to scale with other ships, like 75252 Imperial Star Destroyer, but including the three-stud-wide gunship does covey just how massive the cruiser actually is.

All in all, while it would have been nice to include some level of functionality in the hangar doors, 75367 Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser is clearly designed to be more of a display set, complete with stand and commemorative plaque. Considering the wealth of details included in the design, we can forgive the lack of working hangar doors (we think).
