Every LEGO Technic set confirmed and rumoured for 2024 – February update

We’re starting to get a clearer picture of the full LEGO Technic landscape over the next 12 months, so here’s the latest round-up of every LEGO Technic set confirmed and rumoured for 2024.

Between two newly-revealed Formula 1 sets on the way in March and what looks to be a complete rundown of everything on the way this summer – even if only by subject matter or vague set name – the pieces of the 2024 LEGO Technic puzzle are starting to fall into place. And it looks like another relatively expensive year for Technic die-hards, even if nothing quite hits the eye-watering heights of last year’s 42146 Liebherr Crawler Crane LR 13000.

30682 NASA Mars Rover Perseverance

Price: TBC Pieces: TBC Release date: March 2024

This year’s one and only LEGO Technic polybag miniaturises last summer’s 42158 NASA Mars Rover Perseverance, and packs in a surprising amount of functionality in the process. These polybags might not always be the easiest to find, but they’re usually worth hunting down. Expect to see 30682 NASA Mars Rover Perseverance in the wild from March.

42163 Heavy-Duty Bulldozer

Price: £8.99 / $12.99 / €9.99 Pieces: 195 Release date: January 1, 2024

If you’re in the market for a tiny Technic experience that’s a little easier to track down, consider picking up 42163 Heavy-Duty Bulldozer, which rolled on to shelves in January and offers plenty of bang for your buck. You can’t argue with a LEGO Technic set for less than a tenner in 2024.

42164 Off-Road Race Buggy

Price: £12.99 / $19.99 / €15.99 Pieces: 219 Release date: January 1, 2024

Remaining firmly in cost-effective territory, 42164 Off-Road Race Buggy is another LEGO Technic January 2024 set aimed at younger builders without the deepest of pockets. But it’s also a fun impulse buy for older fans, and includes steering, suspension and a moving four-cylinder engine.

42165 Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 E Performance Pull-Back

Price: £20.99 / $26.99 / €26.99 Pieces: 240 Release date: March 1, 2024

The first (and cheaper) of two F1 W14 cars on the way at different scales in March, 42165 Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 E Performance Pull-Back drops for the same price as a solo Speed Champions car but offers a very different experience to those System-led sets. You’ll never get tired of watching it race around your living room floor.

42166 NEOM McLaren Extreme E Race Car

Price: £20.99 / $26.99 / €26.99 Pieces: 252 Release date: January 1, 2024

A more unorthodox LEGO Technic racer, 42166 NEOM McLaren Extreme E Race Car continues the LEGO Group’s love affair with McLaren away from the world of supercars and Formula 1, and in the world of things that can only be described as Extreme. This one’s got a pull-back motor, too.

42167 Mack LR Electric Garbage Truck

Price: £29.99 / $32.99 / €34.99 Pieces: 503 Release date: January 1, 2024

LEGO Technic excels when it’s tackling the most mundane of vehicles, and what better than a garbage truck to fulfil that notion? The mechanisms in 42167 Mack LR Electric Garbage Truck are ingenious, especially with one eye on what’s still a relatively affordable price tag. It’s available right now at LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores.

42168 John Deere 9700 Forage Harvester

Price: £37.99 / $39.99 / €42.99 Pieces: 559 Release date: January 1, 2024

I’ve got a brand new forage harvester and I’ll give you the key. Good luck getting that banger out of your head as you build 42168 John Deere 9700 Forage Harvester, a LEGO Technic set designed for all those budding farmers out there. Built out in classic John Deere colours, this licensed model includes realistic rear-wheel steering and a functioning forage header tool.

42169 NEOM McLaren Formula E Race Car

Price: £46.99 / $49.99 / €52.99 Pieces: 452 Release date: March 1, 2024

If you prefer your formula electric, the LEGO Technic theme hasn’t forgotten you: joining the two Formula 1 sets on the way in March is 42169 NEOM McLaren Formula E Race Car, which is pitched between the W14 racers at £46.99 / $49.99 / €52.99, and also packs in a pull-back motor.

42170 Kawasaki Ninja H2R Motorcycle

Price: £69.99 / $84.99 / €79.99 Pieces: 643 Release date: March 1, 2024

The LEGO Group’s latest mid-range Technic motorbike is the stunning 42170 Kawasaki Ninja H2R Motorcycle, which slots into the same relative scale as 2020’s 42107 Ducati Panigale V4 R. The 1:8-scale bike includes a two-speed gearbox, suspension, steering and a four-piston articulated engine. That’s a lot of functionality for the price.

42171 Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 E Performance

Price: £189.99 / $219.99 / $219.99 Pieces: 1,642 Release date: March 1, 2024

The largest and most expensive LEGO Technic set revealed for 2024 so far, 42171 Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 E Performance should sit very nicely next to 2022’s 42141 McLaren Formula 1 Race Car on your shelf. Features include slick tires, steering that can be controlled two different ways, a six-cylinder engine with moving pistons and more.

42172 McLaren Supercar

Price: $449.99 Pieces: 3,893 Release date: August 1, 2024

The largest and most expensive LEGO Technic set rumoured for 2024 so far, 42172 McLaren Supercar will apparently be the next set in the LEGO Group’s 1:8-scale garage, following 2022’s 42143 Ferrari Daytona SP3. Exactly which McLaren it’s supposed to depict has yet to be confirmed, but we’ve come up with a few suggestions – including the tasty GTS above…

42173 Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut Grey Hypercar

Price: $49.99 Pieces: TBC Release date: Summer 2024

One of two Jeskos in different colour schemes reportedly on the way in summer 2024, 42173 Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut Grey Hypercar will likely share the same design language as 42151 Bugatti Bolide and 42161 Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica. Don’t expect a pull-back motor here, but do expect an affordable recreation of a very cool real-life car.

42174 18+ Water Vehicle

Price: $119.99 Pieces: TBC Release date: Summer 2024

Hmm. There’s not a lot to go on here, but the price tag for 42174 at least matches that of 2017’s 42064 Ocean Explorer, the largest waterborne LEGO Technic set to date. Either way, this is relatively uncharted territory for the theme, with fewer than 20 boats released across its entire history. Colour us intrigued.

42175 Volvo FMX Truck & EC230 Electric Excavator

Price: $199.99 Pieces: TBC Release date: Summer 2024

A $200 price tag almost sounds low for the amount that the LEGO Group is seemingly trying to cram into 42175 Volvo FMX Truck & EC230 Electric Excavator, because those are two pretty hefty vehicles. It’s an interesting strategy, though, so we’re intrigued to see how it will pay off. If this rumoured set actually exists, of course…

42176 Porsche GT4 e-Performance RC Race Car

Price: $169.99 Pieces: TBC Release date: Summer 2024

The LEGO Group’s admiration for electric cars continues apace with 42176 Porsche GT4 e-Performance RC Race Car, which sounds like it just might be the next set to feature CONTROL+ functionality. A skewed price-per-piece ratio might therefore be afoot as the Technic set swaps out pure plastic for motors, but the jury is out for now.

42177 18+ 4×4 Vehicle

Price: $249.99 Pieces: TBC Release date: Summer 2024

Another rumoured LEGO Technic summer 2024 set that doesn’t give us much insight into what it actually is, this 4x4 vehicle nonetheless sounds pretty expensive. The 18+ label should help to distinguish it from the recently-retired 42129 4x4 Mercedes Benz Zetros Trial Truck.

42178 Surface Space Loader LT78

Price: £29.99 / $34.99 / €34.99 Pieces: 435 Release date: March 1, 2024

The first of four LEGO Technic space sets on the way in March, 42178 Surface Space Loader LT78 packs in steering, a ‘raising and lowering function’ (according to the description), a crane and an air-lock element that helps it connect to its contemporaries. Plus: light grey tyres!

42179 Planet Earth and Moon in Orbit

Price: £69.99 / $74.99 / €79.99 Pieces: 526 Release date: March 1, 2024

42179 Planet Earth and Moon in Orbit serves up something completely different for LEGO Technic in 2024, moving away from vehicles towards a kind of orrery. Most of the focus here is on the mechanisms, but the Earth, Sun and Moon will all draw the eye too, while printed details denote the moon’s different phases, turning it into an educational toy as much as anything.

42180 Mars Crew Exploration Rover

Price: £129.99 / $149.99 / €149.99 Pieces: 1,599 Release date: March 1, 2024

The biggest LEGO Technic space set on the way in 2024 – at least from those revealed so far – is 42180 Mars Crew Exploration Rover, which manages to pack in a laundry list of features. Functions include suspension, an expanding truck bed, moving crane, elevator and generator, while there’s also full living quarters and a companion rover. Basically: there’s a lot going on here.

42181 VTOL Heavy Cargo Spaceship LT81

Price: £89.99 / $109.99 / €99.99 Pieces: 1,365 Release date: March 1, 2024

If you prefer your LEGO Technic space sets to actually fly through the air – and are happy to forgo those cool new tyres – make a beeline for 42181 VTOL Heavy Cargo Spaceship LT81 come March 1. With retractable landing gear, rotating engines and a self-levelling cockpit, this thing is going to be very fun to swoosh around your home office during meetings.

42182 NASA Apollo Lunar Rover

Price: $229.99 Pieces: TBC Release date: Summer 2024

While much of the LEGO Technic 2024 line-up is focused on the future, 42182 NASA Apollo Lunar Rover sounds like it’s going to pay homage to the past too. Blowing past the price tag of last summer’s 42158 NASA Mars Rover Perseverance, this has the makings of an 18+ set all over it. Fingers crossed it’s the actual rover pictured here.

42184 Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut White Hypercar

Price: $49.99 Pieces: TBC Release date: Summer 2024

The other Jesko supposedly on the way in 2024 revamps the hypercar in grey, bringing two different colour variants of one set to shelves simultaneously for the first time. That means you’ll be able to decide between 42173 Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut Grey Hypercar and 42184 Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut White Hypercar from the off this summer, rather than seeing a new variant pop up a year later, as with our final set rumoured for 2024…

42196 Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica Orange

Price: $49.99 Pieces: TBC Release date: Summer 2024

It's hard to imagine 42196 Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica Orange being anything other than a recoloured version of 2023’s lime green 42161 Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica, so you should know what to expect here. But more choice is never a bad thing – or is it?
