The newly-revealed LEGO Ideas 21344 The Orient Express Train has its own buildable tracks for its two carriages to sit on. With a sturdy black base and L Gauge tracks, the LEGO Ideas set is aesthetically incredibly detailed and attractive. However, some fans are disappointed at the lack of practical applications within 21344 The Orient Express Train.
"The set has not been designed to be motorised and the official reason is that it is too heavy," commented one reddit user. "I'm sure it won't stop train fans but it's disappointing to not be officially supported. Why make it fit L gauge tracks if you can’t make it go?"
"I was excited to see a LEGO steam engine that is not a Hogwarts Express but I don't get why Hogwarts Express got motor support and this one didn't," agreed another.
While the general consensus is that a fan will be able to design a solution for getting 21344 The Orient Express Train to move along its tracks, it likely won't be as straightforward as if it came as standard in the LEGO Group's official instructions.
What's more, other fans pointed out that, if weight was the issue, the heaviness of the train itself takes away from the overall appearance, rather than adds to it, with one redditor writing: "Still a bit upset about the train itself, it looks so squat and cartoonish, especially compared to the original submission. I'd have happily sacrificed a carriage for a longer, more detailed engine."
