The life-sized LEGO McLaren Formula 1 car driven by Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri can now be seen up close by fans at LEGOLAND Windsor.
LEGOLAND Windsor is the new temporary home of the life-sized LEGO McLaren, as driven by Formula 1 drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri at the Miami Grand Prix Drivers' Parade. Fans can see the brick-built F1 car for themselves from now until July 15, included in the cost of a visit to LEGOLAND Windsor.
The near 1:1 scale model of McLaren’s MCL39 Formula 1 car is built from nearly 400,000 bricks and weighs a whopping 2,420kg. The enormous build took approximately 1,800 hours to complete, carried out by a team of six highly skilled model makers.
The key difference between it and the real Formula 1 cars – aside from being made of LEGO – is the speed, with these cars reaching speeds up of up to 12mph, rather than over 200mph. That didn't stop the drivers from achieving some daring overtakes in Miami, however.
“We're thrilled to bring the adrenaline of F1 racing to LEGOLAND Windsor with the iconic LEGO F1 McLaren," said Ramesh Ganeson, Vice President, LEGOLAND Windsor Resort. "This amazing life-size replica offers a unique opportunity for families and fans to experience the excitement of F1 up close. We can't wait to ignite and inspire visitors of all ages, creating unforgettable memories and sparking a passion for both LEGO building and racing.”
Visitors to LEGOLAND Windsor will be able to take selfies with the LEGO car, found outside the LEGO store on-site. For more brick-built motor-racing activities, there's also the Ferrari Build and Race Experience, where young racers can make their way through the garage to the racetrack to build, test, and digitally scan their own LEGO Ferrari onto the interactive racetrack.
Tickets to LEGOLAND Windsor start from £39 per person, with kids under 90cm going free. Check out the life-sized LEGO McLaren in situ in the embedded video below.
