Lightning strikes twice in this LEGO Ideas swamp

It didn't take long for a Shrek set to make it into the first LEGO Ideas round of 2024 – and this particular design looks familiar.

YouTuber AshnFlash submitted one of two very similar LEGO Ideas designs centred around Shrek last year. While his first stab, in honour of the 20th anniversary of the movie, wasn't successful, he's quickly followed it up with another version of the same set with Dreamworks' Shrek's Swamp 2 – and it's already shot past 10,000 supporters.

The first iteration hit the 10k mark at a similar speed, reaching the all-important milestone in just three days, demonstrating the power of combining a strong design with a huge online following within the LEGO Community.

Of course, quickly reaching 10,000 votes doesn't mean that Dreamworks' Shrek's Swamp 2 will necessarily become a LEGO set. Indeed, the fact that the LEGO Group has passed on not one but two Shrek-inspired projects could mean that there might be a licensing or some other reason that's proving to be an obstacle to the set becoming a reality.
