More LEGO minifigures who need the Sauron treatment

Sauron and Captain Rex prove that LEGO minifigures released in expensive sets don't have to be exclusive, and many more need that treatment.

What started with Captain Rex breaking free from 75367 Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser, then appearing in 75391 Captain Rex Y-Wing Microfighter continues with Sauron from 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr and 11373 The Lord of the Rings: Sauron's Helmet.

The practice of taking minifigures exclusive to a single, more expensive model and making them more accessible is becoming common, though still rare, and should this continue, we've got our eyes on a few more minifigures from various licenses.

Read on for our speculation into where the LEGO Group's recent efforts may go next, including what more affordable builds could support the release of a previously-exclusive minifigure in an accessible build.

Captain Jean-Luc Picard

Coming from 10356 USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D, the recent Captain Jean-Luc Picard minifigure can only be found in the single LEGO Star Trek model. While no additional builds based on the franchise have been confirmed (except for a gift-with-purchase), a more affordable option than the £349.99 / $399.99 / €379.99 set would be appreciated.

Whether that's a life-sized LEGO phaser, tricorder or a recreation of the iconic emblem, we can only hope that it would be paired with such an iconic character's minifigure, just as Sauron appears in 11373 The Lord of the Rings: Sauron's Helmet.

Captain Jack Sparrow

Another captain minifigure that needs this treatment would have to be Captain Jack Sparrow from the £299.99 / $379.99 / €349.99 10365 Captain Jack Sparrow's Pirate Ship. Following the end of the full LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean theme, affordable sets based on the franchise are nowhere to be found.

A build akin to the original LEGO Ideas ship in a bottle, but with the black pearl as it appears in a smaller form in the films, would be a perfect pairing with this recent minifigure.

Magneto (red outfit)

Following the continuation of the LEGO helmet range earlier today, another Marvel helmet is a clear next move, especially in the wake of Avengers: Doomsday later this year. A recreation of Magneto's iconically shaped helm wouldn't be hard to achieve compared to 11373 The Lord of the Rings: Sauron's Helmet and would present an opportunity to rerelease the Magneto minifigure and helmet found in 76294 X-Men: The X-Mansion.

Alternatively, a modified version of the minifigure to match the X-Men movies and a corresponding helmet build might be a better move with the character's return confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday. Either way, it would get that helmet piece in a more affordable set.

Poison Ivy

After the debut of the stunning Poison Ivy minifigure in 76300 Arkham Asylum, we can only hope that the character will find their way into another DC model soon. It's worth noting that her hair element is already on Pick a Brick in the correct colour.

As various themes continue to explore adult-focused models, a crossover between the LEGO Botanicals range and DC, with Poison Ivy as the focal point, is practically a no-brainer. Whether the LEGO Group will have the two themes cross over in the future is another question, though.

Mihawk

LEGO One Piece's Mihawk minifigure is currently exclusive to 75640 The Baratie Floating Restaurant, which costs £269.99 / $329.99 / €299.99. The live-action adaptation of the anime and manga has been faithful so far, and it's worth noting (without delving into spoilers) that the character returns numerous times in various locations in those sources.

With this in mind, we can only hope that the LEGO Group will see an opportunity to release the Mihawk minifigure and exclusive sword piece in another One Piece model in the future. We won't speculate on any potential models here to avoid spoilers, but there is plenty of potential.
