My October 1 LEGO shopping list: It's all about the mid-range

My October 1 LEGO shopping list: It's all about the mid-range

I've essentially saved £900 by not buying LEGO Star Wars 75419 Death Star, so I'm feeling very good about my mid-range purchases.

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Well, not really, but I already have one eye on Christmas, my personal favourite time of the year, and the October LEGO releases are really helping me along the way. I go all out for my Christmas decorations and am already excited to incorporate 41843 Family Christmas Tree into this year's display, after having it for review.

Come October 1, I cannot wait to put 40806 Gingerbread AT-AT Walker and 40820 Up-Scaled Santa Minifigure in my basket in preparation for the beginning of December (as much as I love Christmas, decorating any earlier than that should be illegal). Although tempted by 40809 Festive Gingerbread House, the price just doesn't quite seem worth it for what you get for me. Plus, I tend to make an edible one every year, and that doubles as a snack.

I don't think my baking skills will ever extend to making a gingerbread AT-AT, however, and there's certainly no way my piping skills can ever live up to the beauty that is the Darth Vader minifigures included in 40806 Gingerbread AT-AT Walker.

Outside of preparing for the festivities, I've known since I first saw an image of 72046 Game Boy that it would be coming home with me. After reports of it hitting shelves early started trickling through, I even did a quick trip down to Costco to see if I could find an early copy, but no joy.

At a time when many of the LEGO sets catching my eye seem to be in the triple figures, it feels good for my bank balance to be hankering after sets around the £50 mark. Of course, buying three of them still pushes me into three figures, but it feels like a lot more bang for your buck when it's three sets – and I won't need to buy more Christmas decorations for this year as well.

As much as we might all wish certain LEGO sets were cheaper, there are still models hitting shelves that are great value for money. Anyone who's been up close with 72046 Game Boy has applauded its authenticity and detail, capturing every inch of the original handheld in its 421 pieces. The same can be said for 40806 Gingerbread AT-AT Walker, while 40820 Up-Scaled Santa Minifigure continues at the same price point as previous up-scaled minifigures without any added Christmas tax.

Considering I'm expecting the payment for BrickLink's 910049 Adventure in Transylvania to come out next month, I'm happy that my LEGO shopping list is on the mid-range of prices in October. Plus, at least I'm not needing to budget for a £900 UCS set...

If you're not sure where to put your LEGO budget in October, we've gathered together every release for next month here, as well as a more detailed breakdown of what to know about the most talked about sets.
