New LEGO Pick a Brick feature will be perfect for army-building

A new LEGO Pick a Brick feature confirmed for the service's future is going to be ideal for army-building and there are plenty of parts to pick.

The LEGO Pick a Brick team announced at an event this weekend that a minifigure building tool is coming to the service with a trial coming to the UK market first. Of the many details confirmed for this feature, it's the ability to easily duplicate any minifigure and add up to 40 to your order that has caught our eye.

That specific function seems likely to have been proposed with one beloved aspect of the community in mind – army-building. The process of amassing minifigures ideal in larger groups can be expensive when you're just getting the sets.

While you can browse through the many minifigure parts on Pick a Brick to army-build already, this feature is going to make it a lot easier whenever it launches. Early images indicate that the parts will be available in a list too rather than having to search multiple pages on Pick a Brick to find them.

Note that some of these pieces may leave the service before the trial begins, but many seem likely to stick around for a while. All information is correct at the time of writing and we don't currently know when the UK trial will start. In the meantime, here are some factions and groups of minifigures that will be great to army-build with this upcoming function.

LEGO Castle characters

Medieval minifigures and Castle characters have plenty of parts present on Pick a Brick, including the necessary parts to amass an army of Lion Knights and Black Falcons, as well as several medieval citizens to populate your historic displays.

Most of these parts come from 10305 Lion Knights' Castle and 10332 Medieval Town Square and while they're retiring later this year, the minifigure elements are likely to stick around for nostalgia. Searching for those set numbers on the service will bring them up if you want to peruse them in advance.

City citizens

Also common on Pick a Brick are minifigure elements of casual clothing and modern fashion, ideal for populating LEGO city displays. Even those with many of the modular buildings will probably want to add a few extra minifigures to their display to keep the streets suitably busy.

Thanks to the addition of parts from 40634 Icons of Play and other sets, the minifigures can have realistic skin tones too, instead of the classic yellow skin that original minifigures are known for. While an army of citizens might not be what you had in mind for this feature, it's going to be perfect for populating LEGO cities worldwide.

NINJAGO warriors

While the Dragonians have yet to surface on Pick a Brick thanks to the new parts delay, the wolf-masked warriors of last season still have their pieces available on Pick a Brick, including from 71805 Jay's Mech Battle Pack.

Hopefully, by the time the UK trial starts the Dragonian pieces will have been added to Pick a Brick, but that's only speculation on our part.

Pirates and sailors

Thanks to 31109 Pirate Ship and the retired 10320 Eldorado Fortress, minifigure elements for Pirates and Imperial Soldiers are available on Pick a Brick now. With new Pirates models coming as part of the BrickLink Designer Program including a new port, amassing more of both factions will be useful.

Classic Space astronauts

The parts necessary for making a white Classic Space astronaut are available on Pick a Brick from 10497 Galaxy Explorer.

While that's not much choice of the many coloured factions of Classic Space astronauts to pick from, at least you can amass the white minifigures when the new feature goes live. These parts have been live in the service for a while and for nostalgic reasons, they seem unlikely to disappear anytime soon. Even should they disappear, a new Classic Space minifigure is guaranteed for LEGO Ideas and its pieces may be added to Pick a Brick in the months after its release.

Vikings

Pairing nicely with the likes of LEGO Castle and Dungeons & Dragons, the Viking minifigure pieces and accessories from 21343 Viking Village are on Pick a Brick too.

It's another nostalgic faction to hopefully army-build when the feature goes live. While no date for the UK trial is currently confirmed, 21343 Viking Village is scheduled to retire this year in case you want to amass these minifigure parts while you can.
