The next Pirates of the Caribbean movie has now been confirmed to be a reboot of the franchise, suggesting that there will be no familiar faces.
A new Pirates of the Caribbean movie has received a surprising update, announcing that the next movie in the franchise will be a reboot, hinting that no familiar faces will return. Rumours initially proposed a Margot Robbie-lead movie featuring Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow returning but that no longer seems to be the case either.
"We're gonna reboot Pirates, so that is easier to put together because you don't have to wait for certain actors." said producer Jerry Bruckheimer to Comicbook.com.
The last Pirates of the Caribbean was released in 2017 but the franchise has been quiet since then and an interview from 2022 suggested that the next movie was no longer on the horizon. Now, work seems to be underway behind the scenes and there may be a future for the franchise but on entirely new seas. Specifically stating that you don't have to wait for certain actors to be available for a reboot suggests that we may not see any older characters in the new movie.
This could present a chance for the LEGO Group to dive into Pirates of the Caribbean again following 71042 Silent Mary in 2017, though the movie is likely a couple of years away at least at the time of writing.
