Don't overlook these six LEGO sets releasing on January 1

Ahead of January 1, there are plenty of highly anticipated releases – but also some worthy newcomers that might have flown under your radar.

While a new modular (11371 Shopping Street), the return of LEGO Stranger Things (11370 Stranger Things: The Creel House), and huge waves across City, Star Wars, Marvel, and more might have snagged most people's attention ahead of January 1, there are more than 150 LEGO sets due to launch tomorrow. That means that there are a fair few sets that might have gone unnoticed so far – but they shouldn't.

We've picked out six sets from potentially unlikely places, or once that haven't had their praises sung enough. 6 – 11508 Daisies

One of the smallest bouquets ever to join the Botanicals theme, 11508 Daisies hides some of the most effective building techniques of the entire January wave. The lavender sprigs in particular are wholly convincing even up close, and the neat addition of the ladybug tile helps to add a pop of colour. Whether to display solo or to add a dash of springtime blooms to an existing display, don't let 11508 Daisies' size make you overlook it.

5 – 31384 Wild Animals: Colorful Hummingbird

LEGO Creator 3-in-1 is often the source of some unlikely delights, and that's certainly true for 31384 Wild Animals: Colorful Hummingbird. LEGO birds can be hit and miss, but this vibrant creation not only catches the eye but delivers even when you look more closely. Paired with a generously blooming flower, the 312-piece set is very well priced at just £24.99.

4 – 80119 Galloping Horses Canvas

80119 Galloping Horses Canvas really does something different when it comes to Lunar New Year sets. The buildable horses alone would be worth a purchase, but the model is taken to the next level with its unique canvas element.

3 – 42691 Garden Restaurant

LEGO Friends is back once again to prove that the theme, despite catering to a younger audience, can be an excellent place for unique architecture. 42691 Garden Restaurant leans into colourful tiles and open-air living, maintaining diversity with greenery that perfectly offsets the pink backdrop of the structure itself.

2 – 21588 The Fox

For Minecraft fans both old and young, 21588 The Fox recreates the cutest animal mob from the game. While it's geared towards display, there's plenty of interaction possible with movable legs, a rotatable neck, a repositionable head, and a reversable eye section, so you show off your fox with its eyes either open and closed, just like in the original game.

1 – 71858 Four Weapons Blacksmith

Last but not least, 71858 Four Weapons Blacksmith goes back to where NINJAGO originally began. The hinging set looks good inside and out, plus it's packed with a wealth of references that long-term fans of the theme and TV show will enjoy.
