LEGO NINJAGO Kai's Monstrous Journey's team is teasing the return of a mysterious character, expanding on a previous storyline.
As part of a recent roundtable interview regarding the new Kai's Monstrous Journey campaign for LEGO NINJAGO, the team behind the new animated episodes shared a tease of a returning character, giving fans another reason to tune in when the episodes start later this month.
"The way that we were introduced to that character in the first place was very mysterious, and that character will continue to be mysterious, but you're going to get a lot more of a glimpse into who this character is and what they're all about," shared writer Matt Danner.

Further details as to the identity of this character were not shared, leaving us to wonder who from NINJAGO's past it might be, and whether they will be friend or foe. The decision to include them came after they sought feedback from fans for the new campaign, and it's likely to be another reason for older fans to watch the series, despite it skewing younger than Monstrosity.
"When we do these extended storylines, we want them to matter," said story executive Tommy Kalmar. "We want them to add something to the bigger tapestry of our canon. This character is so interesting, just by looking at him, it makes sense that he has journeyed off and done more."
"I would say that, without giving too much away, there might be plans for the character in the future," teased animation director Rachael Walker. "I think that there's a lot of potential there for this character. Let's leave it at that."
The comment that there may be plans for the returning character in the future is especially interesting, potentially carrying over some of the story elements from Kai's Monstrous Journey to the main series. Up to now, the likes of Monstrosity and anything in Kai's past during the Merge have only been referenced with common phrases.
Fans of all ages can tune in to the animated episodes of Kai's Monstrous Journey, starting with Forest of Teeth on July 31, then continuing with The Ruins on August 7, and Queen of the Monsters on August 14. In the meantime, the campaign continues on the LEGO Play app and in the LEGO magazine.
